I have a XFX 8800GT Alpha Dog XXX 512MB card on a GIGABYTE GA-P35-DS3R conected to a Sony Bravia KLV32V200A by a VGA cable through a XFX DVI>VGA adaptor.
The TV does not recognise the input from the card and the card does not see the TV unless I tick Analog Display on the "Set Up Multiple Displays" page of the NVIDIA control panel.
Then the Force Detection calls for a restart and the situation reverts to "No Signal"
Is there a way to fix this?

Well, if you're using a DVI to VGA adapter then it's expected that you'd select "Analog Display".

Do you have any other displays connected to the card or is the Sony panel the only one? Just curious why you're using the "set up multiple displays" option.

Rough guess, but you might try removing the video card drivers, connecting only the Sony display and rebooting; this should then force the card to send VGA or sVGA to the display. From there, install the latest nVidia drivers (from nvidia.com. Don't install any XFX-released ones) and reboot. From there, try to set up the resolution (768 or 1080) and refresh frequency (60Hz)

Does the 8800 have an analog output on it? Or only DVI?

Thnak you for that.It's got me part way there.
The TV now sees the conection but I still have to find the right resolution and the TVs' tuning menu for the PC input is still locked off.
I did not know that using a VGA input reduced to an analog signal.

The primary display driven from the 8800 is a LG W2252TQ and a Compaq 7500 is driven from a GeForce 6200.
(The Compaq stays set on e-mail off to the side while I work on the LG and I will soon add a second small screen off the 6200 to have performance and diagnostics constantly available.)
The 8800 has two DVI and one s-video outputs.
Would I be better to use the s-video for the TV?

I'm very glad I havn't had to try the driver sleight of had as I think that would be beyond me.
Now I'll go and search for resolution info.

Connect to the tv using a DVI to HDMI cable!

Yep, VGA is always an analog signal. It can still drive high resolutions with good colour depth so the fact that it's analog isn't a problem.

According to a quick search on the net, the resolution of your TV is 1366 x 768. Try setting 1360x768 as the resolution (it's standard, so 1366x768 probably won't be an option). If you get asked about refresh rate, use 60Hz - this is standard for LCD panels connected to a PC. The TV is not likely to support a higher refresh rate via VGA.

No, s-video would be restricted to 640x480 and will be very ugly indeed. Avoid!

So the 8800 has two DVI outputs? I assume the TV is connected to the second 8800 DVI output, using a cable and VGA adapter, is that right?

That's very helpful.
1360 x 768 was available in the list but so was the option to set a custom resolution so 1366 x 768 at 60Hz it is.

Yes, the TV is connected to the second 8800 DVI output, using a cable and VGA adapter.

Having also discovered that the primary display extends to the right of the screen whereas the control panel says the opposite I can now try moving a display window onto it-next weekend.
Then its on to setting up the Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-4000
