Can anyone help me.

A few months back, I set up an HTPC. It wasn't insanely spec'd, but I didn't think it was complete crap(I could be wrong).

I have HVR2200 (so DVB-T) using Media Portal. I have the PowerCinema codecs (I think 10, or maybe 9)

It mostly works well, except for TV3 (and TV4). TV3 has really bad blurring, which can make things unwatchable.

Watching live TV seems to be worse, but even watching recorded tv can be bad. Especially shows like Lie to Me or SVU (maybe HD?). Watching credits a impossible. Anything quick is pretty bad too. Watching the Soccer on TV1 was pretty good.

PC Stats (what I can remember at this stage)

Gigabyte ga-ma785gmt-ud2h
- AM3
- Onboard Graphics - ATI Radeon
HD4200
- 2 GB RAM
CPU
AMD Athlon II x2

TV LCD 13xx x7xx
Is it just that the graphics can't keep up? Or is it my TV settings?

Using FRAPS, I noticed that TV1 & 2 are 50FPS, but everything else is 25FPS. I assume that is what they broadcast at.

Thanks in advance
blynk

What refresh rate are you using? What deinterlacing settings are you using?

Should not be running anything at 25FPS. For TV it should be 50 for all channels.

The only thing that we see that is not 50FPS (excluding DVD's from the states) are blurays which are mostly 24p.

Mediaportal 1.0.2 should be fine with TV3 at 720p 50hz. Type shift-1 while watching TV3 in MP. This shows diagnostics including framerates. TV31080i  is the most difficult NZ channel to render. MP1.0.2 cannot render 1080i at 1920x1080 resolution on ATI HD3200/HD4200.

In ATI catalyst, you should set display resolution to 720p/50Hz. If I'm interpreting your tv res correctly, you have a 1360x768 hd-ready TV? Whatever, MP1.0.2 can only render 1080i at 720p on ATI hd3200, and probably hd4200.

Ok, I have changed it to be 720p 50Hz. (Yep tv is hd ready)

Using the MP dianostics, its showing the same thing as FRAPS, that all channels except TV1 & TV2 are at 25fps.

How can this be changed? Because it definitely seems like it is the cause of it.

I am not sure about the deinterlacing settings. Actually, the ATI CCC is set to automatic.

I think you're right, 25fps in MP may well be a deinterlace issue. It should be showing 50fps.

One thing to try, go to all settings and disable the denoise, edge enhancement and dynamic contrast features, if enabled.

You also might want to look in your bios at the hd4200 memory settings, maybe setting the largest memory value might help.

Or, you could try a different codec. The one the works great for me is from Powercinema 6, called PCM h264/AVC or somesuch.
