Hi,

I have downloaded and installed EPG Collector v2.0.17.  The EPG configuration works fine and allows me to save the ini file.  When I try to run the EPG Collector it just comes up with the Windows error message saying this program has stopped working.  This happens repeatedly when trying to run the program.  Any help with sorting this would be appreciated.

Are you running the latest drivers for your TV card/adapter?

Anything in the Event Viewer?

You might want to try running the program as an administrator if you're not already doing that.

Yip running the latest drivers.

I can run the Configuration file and it will scan the channels, and find all the freeview channels, and save this file with no problems.

When I then run the EPG Collector.exe I just get the error message about the program has stopped working? I have uninstalled it and reinstalled it with no luck

Did you install from the msi or the zip?

The Configuration program uses a lot of the same code that the Collector does and if you are not getting an EPG Collector.log it's not even executing the first line of code.

Maybe you could try downloading from Sourceforge again.

Thanks for the suggestions. Downloaded both msi and zip versions and installed at different times. Managed to get it to run by right clicking on the .exe file and running as administrator. I am the only user on the computer and set up as the administrator with full access to C: so found it a bit strange that it didn't work without doing this.

I have exactly the same problem, but sadly, your solution doesn't work for me :(

I am the only user, and admistrator on my Windows Vista HTPC.

I run EPGCollector.exe and windows reports "EPGCollector has stopped responding", and gives me the option to 'cancel' in the dialogue box.

I installed using the MSI.

I've tried re-downloading, and running a repair.

No joy.

Very sad :(

PS: Event Viewer shows:

I'm Saved!

I got to thinking... If Carti003 had exactly the same problem, but his fix doesn't work for me... then maybe his fix isn't what he thinks it is...

So, I downloaded the .zip version, slapped it in c:\tmp\, and hey presto! It seems that if you upgrade to the latest version from 1.0.x (whatever I had before), there is some incompatabilities created, and the application just crashes.
To be clear, the error occurred because I installed the latest version on top of (in the same directory as) the old version.

I'm now adequately setup, and I can sleep easier, knowing that wifey will cope without me :)

Edwood, seems you fixed your system shortly after posting in the other thread. I may have to change programs too now damn it.

What program & source were you using before and what are you using now?

Seems you and I (and no doubt others) were using the same source previously and the lack of feedback / contact details at times like this is a little frustrating.

I've got 2 days to try and sort this so I'd appreciate your work around, cheers Felicks.

It seems some people think that logging into Windows with the user account administrator actually makes them an administrator with no restrictions in Windows Vista and Windows 7. This is not the case.

Microsoft released Vista/7 with a security feature called UAC (User Account Control). When this is on, any program that runs from a protected directory, C:\Windows C:\Program Files are a couple, need to be authorised to run as an administrator so they can write to those directories.

If you right click the epgcollector.exe file and select "Run as Administrator" then EPGCollector should run fine. If not then EPGCollector migth have issues with TV tuners and settings.

The options to automate this process are
1. Use the EPGCollector zip file and put EPGCollector in C:\Epg directory, right click the directory, select properties, click security and make sure Users have full access.
2. Create a scheduled task to run EPGCollector and select run with the highest privileges.
3. Turn off UAC, but this is not recommended.

If you have tried any of these and it is still not working, then download the file again.

Cheers

Thanks Steve, I have registered with the site and will get myself up to speed with this new program.

Of course, now that I have done that my old Guide has just this minute started working again. So I'm still in the dark as to has gone on behind the scenes but am definitely relieved!
