Hi

I got a Marantz Compact Disc Player CD-57 mkII
Its an old unit and hasn't used it much
Tried to make it work today and it seems that the disc is not getting read
When inserting the audio CD, the CD doesn't turn, to have it detected to check how many songs are there on the CD
The display just says DISC
Its stuck with just that display
When there is no disc, it should display No Disc, instead it just says DISC

Could anyone please help with how to get the Audio CD to get Read

Thanks

What type of CD are you trying to play? CD-R?

Hi, I think its CD-ROM
The normal music CD we buy from Music Store.
CD-R is Re-writable. I am pretty sure those CD's we cant re-write

It sounds like your CD Player is faulty and probably the Disc Drive has failed.
I've had this happen with an old one of mine.
When a disc is inserted the drive should turn to detect the disc type no matter what type of disc is used then indicate if it is playable or not.
Audio Discs are CD-R (non rewriteable) but can also be CD-RW (re-writeable). CD-ROM are PC data discs which can be CD-R or CD-RW (containing data and not audio files) but I have found they seem to be detected by CD Players (not playable) but not DVD players.

Hi

You are right. The player doesnt turn first time to detect the tracks on the CD.
Is there any way to replace the cd drive?

Probably not. They don't seem to be standard drives.
Mine went to the Tip.

The CD tray should be easy enough to hunt a replacement for...
The importers are in Chch - they also bring in B&W / Audioquest, so if you do want to keep it up and running, I'm guessing they'll be able to offer a hand?

Could just be a gunged up transport etc, or a sensor not getting triggered. I fixed a 5 disk one by opening it and checking everthing that moved did move, and then found that there was a sensor for when the tray was in that was not working. It was not a sealed microswitch, just 2 contacts on a bit of plastic and it had some fluff between them, cleared that out and it worked again.
