I have heen trying to tune in this Plasma TV and find now in the manual that it is only setup for VHF in NZ.

Any idea of how this can be done?

Can see the channel CTV ( Canterbury TV) in the snowy background, but no luck.

Appreciate your help. Cheers

CTV analog transmission is on UHF channel 44 so if you can see it and it is snowy then your issue is with your antenna or lack of. The only channels on VHF from Sugarloaf are analog transmissions of TV1/2/3/4.

EDIT: Clearly stated in the manual as tuning UHF E21 to E69.

One would think that you would be interested in DVB-T transmissions on 47, 49 and 50 but sadly your TV has no DVB-T tuner. Maybe buy a setup box after getting a UHF antenna installed.

Spark Max Fibre using Mikrotik CCR1009-8G-1S-1S+, CRS125-24G-1S, Unifi UAP, U6-Pro, UAP-AC-M-Pro, Apple TV 4K (2022), Apple TV 4K (2017), iPad Air 1st gen, iPad Air 4th gen, iPhone 13, SkyNZ3151 (the white box). If it doesn't move then it's data cabled.

thanks very much for your answer!  We do have a UHF antenna but I don't think it's worth getting a set top box also.

If your UHF analog channels are noisy then the antenna obviously doesn't work very well. UHF channels like Maori TV, on 46 and Prime, on 62, should be noiseless north past Sefton and down to Ashburton.

Watching analog 4:3 ratio images on a modern TV is not pleasant however and you would notice a vast improvement in image quality using a set top box to get 16:9 ratio high definition content on TV1/2/3.

EDIT: Sugarloaf's analog transmissions will also cease in 2 years.

This TV doesnt seem to tune into UHF. In the manual it only mentions VHF for NZ although it does mention UHF for other countries.
This house has sky digital tv, we did not have it installed or know if the other aerial ws disconected.

On another Small Sony Tv we can get the amateur tvchannel that broadcasts TED, but we still couldn't tune in CTV.
We hope to see the cathedral deconsecration on Tuesday at 7pm.Otherwise we will just let it go , cheers for all your help.

almost all tvs sold in NZ over the past twenty years or more are capable of tuning in analogue uhf signals.

and as stated in an earlier post here - the manual for your TV clearly states it is capable of picking up UHF transmissions in NZ

CTV on channel 44 is the lowest powered of the UHF channels broadcast from Sugarloaf so it likely that the picture could be noisy/snowy even if you have an external antenna. The amateur channel on 39 is even lower power than CTV though. To test the reception of analog UHF you should be looking for Maori TV on 46, Prime on 62, VTV may still be on 52 but this comes from Marleys Hill.  Maybe try an indoor antenna, not rabbit ears but a loop or small yagi tuned to UHF, if you can not see the channels above as the TV definitely tunes E21 through E69 and channels E27 through E62 are used in NZ.
