2009 Sony 26 inch LCD screen was knocked and now when turned on has a cracked screen appreance..

What is the insurance companys policy for this.... ie repair the screen or have the TV replaced.

Tv was bought in 2009 and cost $764.15

We can't answer this for you with certainty - you'll need to contact your insurance company.

They typically require a quote for repair... and will replace it / repair it / or give you $'s towards a new 26" Sony LCD.
If the cost of repair is higher than the replacement cost - guess what?
New TV time. Just don't expect them to give you $700+ for a new 26" tellie...

Understand the cost of such a replacement TV has dropped alot since 2009, was just wondering thou, if it had to be replaced the cost would be for a similar model?

As i have seen some now as low as the high $300....

They would probably replace it, but you would need to talk to them. But it maybe worth less than your excess. You can pickup a 26 inch sony for around $400 and many peoples excess is around that.

Contact your Insurance Company and ask them.
Not much use asking anyone here as we don't know who you are insured with or what their Policy would be.
My experience with my Insurance Company is they replace with same or similar model having been advised of uneconomical repair by the Service Agent.
They also refunded the Fault Investigation Fee.

Just make sure when you decide to claim or not take into account loss of no claims bonus. For us the break even is almost $500! You can get a fairly nice 26" telly for that.

ok, well first off excess is not a problem, there isn't anything to pay as in excess in our policy....

It is now in for the repair report who will then post straight to claims office....

thanks so far for the information..

No excess on the policy? weird? the lowest I was offered was $250 which IMO is absudly low, opted for a $1000 one for a considerably cheaper premium. No claims discount would eat up any 26" TV from what I have seen, but if you are a perpetual claimer then you never get that discount anyway so claiming the TV may make financial sense.

I would just write it off with how I am insured.

Do you get some sort of deal for having all your banking with them?

The cheapest i can find is $250 excess, which is still low: http://www.westpac.co.nz/olcontent/olcontent.nsf/Content/Full+Contents+cover

Guess you didn't read this bit
"If you’re 55 or over you can pay more for your insurance and have no excess at all."
Wonder how much extra they charge? Probably more than the TV is worth over a few years?

I would've used it as an excuse to just buy a new TV. then you don't have to muck around wasting time getting quotes, not having a TV for x amount of days, dealing with insurance companies, potentially losing no claims bonuses, paying excesses etc. Can get a perfectly good LG or Panasonic 32" for <$600.

If it was a $1500+ TV, then that'd be a different story.
