Hi - I'm new here so am being good and doing as I'm told to introduce myself:

I'm Steve, based in Sheffield, England. Work wise I'm a lawyer, but please don't hold that against me! Hobbies are car racing, classic car restoration, anything involving the great outdoors (mountain biking, hiking, stuff like that) and the usuals of gaming, TV, reading etc.

After months of using Geekzone's forums for help when i manage to screw something up on my PC I have finally managed one that somebody else hasn't already asked about already, so am now finally registering!

And, if I may say so, it's nice to be here!

Welcome :) So what cars have you restored so far? I wish I could do something like that, love seeing an old car restored to its former glory

Hi - and thanks for the weclomes!

Pebbles - I have been involved with  a number of builds over the years, including a few old Rover P6's (I'm based in the UK, so realise that many may not know what these are - basically old 70's cars), a Mk1 Ford Granada, and (before US muscle cars got too expensive) a '69 Plymouth Roadrunner and a '68 Dodge Charger. Currently finishing off a 1987 Ford Sierra Cosworth 3 door that is an exceptionally low mileage model that'd been in a barn for 12 years! It's beautiful and almost like it's out a timewarp! (I had a poster of similar on my bedroom wall as a kid, so figure I may keep this one for a while, but as it's approaching completion I keep getting people offering me silly amounts for it, so am getting tempted!).

so basically a mixed bag!

I know all those cars!! Heaps of P6s over here, though not popular for resto - most are fading away, or kept as weekenders. That Cosworth is only getting more expensive. Advertise it for offers in a national car mag, and you will pull in 20% more than what you have been offered locally!!

The dodge cruiser must have been amazing on completion! one of my friends did up a ford escort (can't remember the year) nothing too amazing as he wasn't the richest, but now that it's all done it looks amazing! he paid $400 for it originally too which always makes the final product even better

The Charger was indeed beautiful once done - as a Dukes of Hazzard fan all of my years it was tempting to paint it up as a General Lee replica (despite it being one years too early, but only car nerds/Dukes nerds such as me would nit pick too much about that!). We ended up painting it in a beautiful "candy apple" red, with black leather interior. It was a thing of beauty, and one I would have loved to have kept, but I'd gone into it with a mate, and couldn't afford to buy out his share, so we have to sell it on completion! Gutted, and to this day I'd still love one of my own!

Restoring for me shouldn't be about money - it's a labour of love to put back a car to it's former glory - whether that's glory from forty years ago or ten years ago! I got started when my first ever car (a Mk1 Vauxhall Astra from 1983) needed some work doing and I couldn't afford to pay a garage to do it, so I got the tools out, promptly made it worse before I made it better (that's a theme that continues to this day!), but ultimately got it sorted, and got a buzz from doing it! So hat's off to your mate with his Escort - I'm sure he gets a buzz everytime he drives it knowing that he made it the way it is (well, possibly with a bit of help from Ford and a workshop manual!)

Sorry, I'm totally off on a tangent aren't I!
