Refugee from PressF1. There are a lot of great people there but also seem to be a few people who thrive off race baiting and the like that makes it a bit unbearable. Originally came to geekzone try and find a charger for a vintage laptop but enjoying the vibe here :)

Got back from Japan about 3 months ago, did my stint in MIQ and now based in Christchurch. It's a bit strange being home after all these years but was glad to get out of there when I did with the way covid is going.

Nice to meet you all :)

Welcome to Geekzone!

I am PeterReader, the Geekzone Robot. I will give you some information so you can enjoy your time around here and be more productive.

First, everyone follows the Forum Usage Guidelines (FUG). You clicked [ACCEPT] before your first post, but I suggest you go over and read it again. Any questions, ask away.

There are many features around this forum. If you want to get the best out of Geekzone, check our Geekzone Guide.

People around here can be funny. When reading a comment don't take it personally as everyone here knows we should always attack arguments not the people behind them. But if you see some sarcastic jokes, it happens. With time you will see there are lots of people who post around the forums in a variety of topics. Those more frequent posters help us make sure the community is safe.

If you feel you need help, look for freitasm, our BDFL and send him a Private Message (PM) by clicking the email button.

We have a few accounts on Twitter and would love if you followed us: @geekz1, @geekzonenzforum, @geekzonenzjobs. You can also use watch forums and topics or use our RSS feeds to keep on top of discussions. Check the menu items on top and bottom of all pages to find out more.

If you see that the time in these posts are wrong, check your profile page and make sure the correct timezone is selected.

If you want to help the community you can subscribe to Geekzone, make your purchases through our Amazon affiliate link or through our MightyApe affiliate link. We also would appreciate if you white list Geekzone in your ad blocker.

Lastly, just enjoy your time around here and I might even reply in another of your posts!

I'd never heard of it either, but it certainly has a bit more of a toxic vibe to here.

Press F1's been around for donkey's years, in fact before Web access was commonplace you could send in questions via postal mail!

Yeah it was great back in its day but has really died down now. There are still a ton of awesome people there to interact with, and debates are very spirited.

I think what I like about Geekzone so far though is that a lot of work has gone in to seperate categories- it's nice not just having an entire chat section filled with whatever anyone wants to talk about. That being said you always came across an interesting topic that way too every now and again, but there are a lot of very... diverse.. political opinions and a few users who seem adamant to amplify issues that are divisive (one that almost made me quit was a guy complaining about Simon on 1News speaking Maori every now and again and how it was a bad thing; it might sound like a reasonable topic but the title of the topic was "I have no use for a cave man language" and apparently that was OK).

Being able to dive in to categories and contribute to things I'm interested in and ignore the more touchy stuff is a god send- and so far everyone on this site has been super welcoming. 😇
