Hello all. I have a Sony Vaio PCG-K13 laptop. I've had it for a little over 2 years and up until today I have never had a problem with it. I just did a complete system restore on it about a week ago with the factory reset disks. My girlfriend was using it today and said the screen seemed kind of dim. I went to boot it up a few hours later and now the screen won't show anything. Its just black.  It sounds like the computer is still booting up I just can't see a damn thing in the screen. Anyone ever had this happen? Any recommendations? I'd really hate to have to loose this laptop.  Thanks in advance.

Wow Johnr.. Thanks for all the help. I bet it took you longer to type that than it did to come up with that educated answer. That's just what I was looking for. Thanks again.

Have you got a normal monitor to plug into it, that way if you can get the display coming up, there is likely a problem with the laptop screen.

Another method would be to get a live CD of linux or something, and boot up - if you have display, then its an OS issue.

Can you see the Windows boot screen? If not, you probably have a faulty display.

Tony. I tried using another monitor and that didn't work either.  I did some research online and found out it could be a RAM issue.  I removed the RAM and reseated it and it worked perfectly.  Thanks for the help though.

Glad you got it sorted! At least a RAM issue is a cheap and easy fix!
