Hi,

i have a compaq presario x1000 laptop (DN591A or X1030AP) and am looking at upgrading the HDD from 60GB to 100GB. does anybody know if this laptop can take a 100GB HDD? (has anybody performed such an upgrade). i have checked with compaq but i get different responses. some say it can only take 60GB, another said the maximum is 80GB while a third stated that it can take up to 160GB. if anyone can help me out it would be much appreciated. thanks in advance

It should work just fine!

The reps are probably looking at what the current models max capacity is, and quoting that.

Make sure you get an EIDE drive and not SATA.

Sorry, late to the party... I got the same laptop too (which I now run it as our home SBS server)... Anyway... as Tony mentioned, as long as it is a 2.5" EIDE HDD, then you'll be fine.

Internet is my backyard...

the only difference (except for the size) between the two hdd i want to install is that the current one i have (60gb) has an ATA-5 interface. the 100gb i want has an ATA-6 interface. otherwise all other specs are the same e.g 5400rpm, 16mb cache, hight etc. i think ATA-6 is backward compatible so my pc should be able to handle it without any problems. can hardly wait to get it all up and running - should be nice :-)
