It seems difficult to find a a laptop with better than 720 mp built in camera for skyping. Wanting it for my Mum who is ill and skypes to her grandchild in uk every day and is used to windows oc interface with ordinary laptop size screen that she can carry around. Looked at hp envy in shops but colour washed out. Ant suggestions?

If you want a genuinely good quality webcam, you will need to look beyond the onboard ones, imo. Logitech make some awesome 1080p webcams like the C920. Best image quality I've seen in a small size webcam yet. bear in mind, higher image resolution requires higher sustained bandwidth to stream smoothly, so if either party is on a dinky connection like ADSL or something your experience will be less than optimal.

If you are not in a hurry I think the next wave of laptops is due to be announced - some of these may have Intel RealSense cameras in them for the Windows Hello feature - although I am not sure of what the final camera specs will be.

The washout may be from lighting. I'm not sure you really need to go 1080? Maybe the existing setup is bad for other reasons than 720 vs 1080?

I don't know if the laptop is any good but the Sony Vaio Duo 11, has 2x (Front & Back) 2.4 Megapixel cameras.

A lot of Toshibas have 2 megapixel cams, but apparently they are barely better than 720p cams.
