I need a new laptop for work and looking for something that runs very fast. I often have many tabs open with a lot of data being downloaded into spreadsheets etc. Speed is my main concern.

I travel a lot for work so looking for something as light as possible without compromising on performance.

I'm looking at the HP spectre range. I''m a big fan of HP's so would like to stick with them.

I'm looking at these models 13-V112TU, 13-V004TU and 13-AC002TU

Mainly because of the 512gb ssd and i7 processor.

Does anyone have any advice on these and best place to buy from in NZ? I'm in Queenstown and Noel Leeming and Harvey Norman prices don't compete with elive or other smaller online retailers.

Any advice would be helpful on model, price and where to buy.

The 13-AC002TU is the new model with Kaby Lake CPU and a thin bezel (much like the Dell XPS 13).

I personally own one (albeit a model with 16GB ram) and I can say it really is a very nice laptop. It has the footprint of a 11 or 12 inch laptop with a very good keyboard.

The only downside to it is that it can run a little warm if you are planning to use it on your lap for long periods.

I bought mine late last year from eBay for $AU1800 with a 20% discount.

Thanks, that sounds ideal!

I've been looking at buying from AUs or the US because of the price but I wasn't sure on whether retailers would ship to NZ. I read some people use a shipping service like youship to do it, at the end of the day just thought it might easier to bite the bullet and buy from NZ?

If anyone has any tips on getting a better deal buying international that would also be helpful!

You say for work. All these have consumer OS's on them (Home Edition) meaning they are designed more for home. If your business has a Domain Controller, you won't be able to join this without an upgrade to Pro.

Honestly, if it's for business, I'd recommend buying business grade gear, something like the x360 1030 or similar. 3 Year Onsite Warranty etc.

More expensive almost certainly, but also better overall in my opinion.

When I say work, i work for myself as a freelancer. Home edition has been fine for what I do. Thanks for the info though!

Many eBay sellers do ship to NZ - although they mark this up majorly to make extra money. However, having said that it is still a lot cheaper than in NZ by quite a margin. You miss out on the warranty and AUS/NZ power adapter though.

All notebook power adapters these days are multi-voltage and works anywhere. In other words, you don't need to worry about that. You just need a cheap $2 adapter to plug into NZ wall sockets, that's all. Or, buy a local power cord.

Ok great, thanks for the advice!

So just to be clear, you think the 13-AC002TU is the one to go for? I can't tell which CPU or bezels the models have and don't really know what is worth getting for the price etc. There are so many options - but mainly looking for extremely fast performance, light weight and reliability. Happy to spend around 3k but just trying to make sure i'm buying the right thing.

Yes, go for it. It should look like the one shown on Harvey Norman's website here.

This is what the older model looks like (with the thicker side bezels).

Let me know how you get on with the purchase. Always keen to know a good eBay seller if you go that way. Don't forget if you buy via eBay you will be charged GST when it reaches here. Basically the converted NZ price plus 15%.

Great thanks very much. I can actually only find the model at Harvey Norman. Nothing coming up on ebay au for the model.

Harvey Norman have a sale on it ending today too.

Sorry to keep hounding with questions but do you know of any other models with similar specs that other retailers might be selling at a better price? Harvey Norman and Noel Leeming are usually at premium prices, even thought it's on sale i'm sure i'll probably be paying top dollar for it if I get it from Harvey Norman.

Hope i'm not getting too annoying ha!

Yeah, as this model is quite new to the NZ market, many don't have it other than Harvey Norman.

Try ebay.com. Plenty of US sellers happy to ship internationally. You will get better bang for your buck there.

There is really no alternative, unless if you want to go with the Dell XPS 13. It is a conventional laptop though.

I'd be wary buying anything expensive from ebay. Importing is problematic because batteries aren't meant to be posted, especially through youshop. Buying locally likely makes sense.
