Hi,

I think this is the correct forum for this.

I recently received a laptop as an insurance replacement. I didn't get many options to choose from, but the laptop I received, while having some great specs, is probably a bit of overkill for me.

As such I haven't even opened the box, just went into Noel Leeming and looked at the Demo model and then collected the replacement.

Given it is brand new and in box, I don't really want to sell it at a complete cut price as I want to reinvest a sale into something a bit more suited to my needs.

Other than Trademe, Mighty Ape, or Facebook groups/marketplace, are there any other options for selling laptops these days? Any stores that would fairly value a purchase?

Unfortunately many electronic goods are like cars. loses about half their value the moment you step out of the store. if you price it 30% less than retail you might sell it. any higher price and it is very hard to sell. if your insurance does cash settlement always take cash.

Might have to wait to see what they are selling it for on Boxing day, then undercut that on Trademe. Call it an unwanted gift.

Thanks for the offer, but currently looking at getting something light but still decently grunty like the Gigabyte Aero, so the Sabre might not quite meet requirements.

You need to be realistic.

Consider from a potential buyers point of veiw
Why would they even bother unless its considerably below retail cost.
The potential buyer see's it as used , even if its in a sealed box. The buyer will factor in MAJOR warranty hassles if issues arise . So if its not considerably
cheaper, they wont bother.

Try www.gpforums.co.nz . You might find a gamer there who's interested .

Useful tips and didn't even know about gpforums.

I think warranty would still be OK given I have the receipt and the box hasn't even been opened, so haven't registered it yet or anything. Or am I not quite correct on that?

In terms of being realistic, asking for about 60-70% of the retail price is about right would you say?

I had a Gigabyte P55 I think, 13", 950 (or maybe 960) with a couple of SSDs in it. Yeap complete monster, I think it was the only one Noel Leeming offered with 512gb SSD in it. Hilarious. Probably should have taken the cash offer, but when I accounted for excess it was too big a value gap.

Been looking at NewEgg NZ and the laptop I actually desire is on there, fair bit cheaper than local as well so considering just trying to get the cost of getting that covered an forget trying to achieve a given value.

It's not brand new if you are not the first seller of the item. Misuse of that term on trademe really annoys me.

Dont think thats fair, if its unused, unopened it is brand new. No different to a dairy buying things at the supermarket and selling them on. Agreed clarity is important around the fact that it is being resold by a private seller, but its still brand new.

If goods have been on the retailers shelf or importers warehouse for over a year, is it still 'brand new' then ?
I'd say not. Its old stock , not brand new.
What if someone bought it a year ago, & left it un-opened . Or bought it 3 months ago etc

So where do we draw the line ?

Trademe is an auction site anyway, Brand New isnt the same if bought from Trademe .
