Hi all
I went to turn on my Acer Aspire 5310, Now when I press the power button everything turns on, drives spin up, DVD drive lights come on and the fans start spinning. This lasts for a second or two and then it powers down. About 2 seconds later, it powers back up, and does this repeatedly.
I can't even turn my laptop back off.
I had to remove the battery, but have no idea what is going down with it.
I tried charging it but it still has the same problem.
Any help will be great, thanks.

Like looking for a needle in a hay stack have you tried booting into safe mode?

Does it do it when plugged without the battery? If not then I'd say this battery is dead... If yes then we have to think about other things. Let us know this first.

I hadn't tried it but it is still doing the same thing.
Nothing like this has happened before. I also tried the spare battery from my old Acer laptop and that appears not to have helped.

Are you able to tell us if you see anything at all on the screen? I.e. a BIOS load screen or any text at all?

I would love to change the world, but they won't give me the source code

It's just a plain black screen. The BIOS doesn't come up, and i don't have chance to bring any computer menus before it shuts off and comes back on.

It may be hard to diagnose the problem from there, but start with the RAM. Try removing it/reseating it and then rebooting.

Yep, agree with RS. Also, could be an overheating problem if the fan(s) are dusty / dead. If you are confident enough, open it up and have a look?
