I have Windows XP Pro on my laptop and want to transfer to a newer model computer that has Windows XP on it also. The files I need to transfer are as follows:

M$ Outlook Express 6 where I have a lot of sorted folders - to - M$ Outlook Express latest version (guessing the same?)

M$ Outlook 2002 calendar files to M$ Outlook 2007 calendar files

Any help or questions will be greatly appreciated.

BTW, I am also thinking of transferring all this to a Mac with iCal and iMail if that is a better plan and would also appreciate any input therein.

You can use the Files and Settings Transfer Wizard in Windows XP to transfer files and settings across. This will also allow you to set which settings you want so you can shrink it down to only your outlook stuff

Hmmmmmm, this appears to be a great way for "new install" however I've already installed the same Windows XP on the new machine because I'm deleting it off this machine (a MacBook Pro running Windows under BootCamp that I'm going to sell.)

I think you may have miss read the article. What it does is run against your old install of windows and extracts the information you specify during the wizard and puts it into a file.

Once you have the file, you can run the wizard on the new computer and import the settings back in.

I would run it from the CD if I was you, it gaurantees that the version of the program is exact.
Also, make sure you install any programs that you want the settings transfered across in on the new pc first before running the wizard

There are a few ways to do it, probably best explained here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/270670

The link above is for Outlook Express.

For the outlook calendar, there is a built-in option within outlook to export/import your information. Under the file menu there will be an import/export option, and from there you can choose export to a personal folder file (.pst) - a good explanation can be found here: http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/outlook/HA011030811033.aspx
