So im going to purchase a laptop and have decided to spend approximately $1500-2000

I was originally sold on the Asus N61JA-JX046X as advertised here http://www.playtech.co.nz/product.php?action=showdetail&id=8705

However, ive since heard the gfx card is fairly crap, and the screen is not 1600x1200 as advertised.

I've since found this laptop HP Dv6-2005tx found here http://119.47.125.81/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=518_523&products_id=35143

Now both these laptops are the same price, however the HP has an i7 processor, a better gfx card, faster HDD.

I really wanted to buy the Asus, but now im not so sure.

What gives?

I wouldn't touch the HP consumer range of notebooks.
Seen so many of them fail.
HP business notebooks on the other hand are great.

id go for the second one, the hp.
the quad core i7 owns, still quite pricey imo

no! nothing runs on a mac lol.
at work we have a mac copy of battlefield 2012 thats been sittin there for like 3 years lol

light speed apparently.

i wonder if the mobile i7 will come in faster versions ... like 3GHz (and turboing to 4GHz!) soon ...

i7 includes hyper threading so it will be quite fast without needing to go into 4ghz. i think they should have overclocking features...although then you would have one hell of a hot laptop!

dont blindly go grabbing the i7 because its 'faster'.... the i7 and i5 are both good CPU's and fare quite well in the CPU benchmarks:

Intel Core i5 M 430 @ 2.27GHz 2525
Intel Core i7 720QM @ 1.60GHz 3304

both of these rate better than a couple of my dual proc blade servers :)

both the i5 and i7 have hyperthreading and virtualisation tech.

No the Early Pentium 4's didn't, Only 3.0ghz (may have been 2.8) Presscotts and above had it in the p4 range
