Kiaora everyone,

Just a quick question - my laptop recently had a wee tumble off the side of my bed (oops) and since i have noticed the processing noises to be much more audible than before. The noise is the same as that you used to hear in old pc's when they were thinking...

Laptop is a Dell Studio xp 16 and is less than a year old.

Should i be worried? The sound is not continuous, but sometimes it goes on for a little while. I have read in a forum that it means potential hdd issues (not surprising from the fall), but im really hoping its nothing.
I can send it in as its still under warranty, but since its running perfectly im not sure what to do.

thoughts to ease my mind?

Cheers

What is a "processing noise"? Is it the fan or the hard drive? If it's the hard drive, back up important documents NOW (twice, to two different drives/disks), then download the demo of Acronis true image. Backup all of your drive, buy a new drive and then restore it. You won't need to reinstall Windows or anything.

The drive will probably fail, the question is when. Tomorrow or next year, no one knows.  Sure, it's expensive, but that's what happens. I tripped on my laptops power cable, the laptop dropped on the floor, and now the lid won't shut properly, so if I take it somewhere, I need to hibernate then remove the battery.  Accidents happen, that's just the way it is.
