So after my investigation into which laptop I want to purchase for my trip to Japan.
I narrowed my selection down to 3 main contenders.

Dell m1210
Alienware m3450
Asus A8Ja

I decided I would check out the Asus A8Ja, good all round price, and loads of features. And it didnt have a big blue glowing alien head on the top of the screen.

You wouldnt bloody believe it, i finally decide on the machine i want, and NO stores in NZ are continuing to stock, they have....Aswcent, PB Tech etc all DID have it in stock, now they are sold out and noone in NZ is bringing this machine back.
AAARRRRRRRGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHH

I shall continue my hunt for this laptop, surely someone must still have one in their store room or warehouse....surely, please?
otherwise im back to the drawing board.....I was so set on this laptop too :(

well maybe not all is lost...

The Asus A8Jc seems to be indentical, apart from the 512MB RAM, its max is 2GB like the A8Ja, but it has a gforce 7300 256mb and comes with XP Home.....not exactly ideal.
But XP Home i can get around, the gfx card seems a bit weaker than the A8Ja's ATI X1600 512MB Hypermemory and as for the memory, well I can always buy more....and i think that will be the first thing i spend the left over money on.
Of course how much will a 1GB chip of DDR2 533 mem set me back :\

so I think I have a laptop...think being the operative word.

Asus A8Jc, 14inch screen, 512 RAM, nvidia GO 7300 gfx card, 80GB HDD, S-Video Out, weighing in @ 2.4KG incl battery, only 3.5hrs battery life. and all for the grand total of about $2200. So i will definately purchase another GIG chip of RAM for it.

Now, Ive checked out a Sony Vaio also, the SZ23GPB - http://sonystyle.co.nz/shop_detail.asp?ssc=346&ssm=340&sku=VGNSZ23GPB

But, for some insane reason they have deicided to not include a S-Video out port !! WWTTFF!!

its $3000, but for the weight, XP Pro, better gfx card and and coolness that is a Vaio I would buy it, except for the fact it has no video out, this is something I cant ingore.
For a saving for $800, an increase in screen size of a measly 0.8", increase in weight of about 0.6KG and about 3HRS LESS battery life I could get the Asus.

Im so gutted sony didnt put a video out on this box. Also Ive read bad things about the space bar and cramp-ness of the keyboard.
Thing is, can I accept a laptop that is 2.4KG or a laptop that has no video out....
