I am currently updating my laptop (previous HP Pavilion DV6) and have been looking at ProBooks, being 4520s, 5320b and 6560b. They are all not too far from each other in price, however in doing some research on the internet there seems to some issues with each of them. Can someone help unravel the mystery?

4520s - poor battery life and difficult to use the integrated mouse, poor battery life
5320m - discontinued model?
6560b - poor screen resolution and graphics.

I have also been looking at Lenova and they seem to have some good models.

I guess the issue is there are too many laptops to choose from and obvious particular outlets will promote their stock as being the best.

I travel a lot so portability is essential as is battery life, but it must be perform well so looking i7 processor and 4Gb Ram.

Cheers

i used to have HP laptops, before that Toshiba. I now have a Lenovo T510 with i7, 8gb ram, SSD and an extended battery and i'm happier with this than all previous machines. you can also get decent deals from the lenovo.com.au site, they often run specials, and you can conifg-to-order like dell..

in fact they have a special on now: http://www.lenovo.com/nz/en/ and 'spring carnival specials'

the good thing about the lenovos is that its easy to order HD (1366x768), HD+ (1600x900) or FHD (1920x1080) resolutions (in a 15.6" size screen on the T520 at least). I run a 16x9 screen on mine.

for the extended battery you would choose the 9 cell... it sticks out the back of the laptop a bit, but its worth it for the extra life.

last tip, get an SSD but buy it "aftermarket".. much cheaper. Also get a hard drive caddy from http://www.newmodeus.com/ and replace the DVD drive with your original HDD. run your C:\ drive on SSD (and demo virtual machines if using) and store your important files on the HDD

Just make sure if you go for HDD planning to swap for a SSD you check the HDD type. I got a Lenovo here and when I tried to swap the HDD with my SSD I found out it was half height, so the SSD won't fit...

Other than this I have a Lenovo here and really good quality (I also have a HP).

Anyone here (particularly NZ) got a Lenovo X220 (lightweight & w. IPS screen)?

There were reports of persistent Faint Ghosting on X220 IPS screen and light bleed in earlier shipments, but Lenovo claims improvement in later shipments.

The problem with the touchpad on the 4520s was they integrated the buttons into the touchpad. The 4520s has now been replaced with the 4530s which has dedicated buttons. Problem solved!

Think its a 4520 Ive got as a work laptop (not on me right now) and the touchpad is bloody frustrating otherwise seems to be a good machine, battery lasts for quite some time.
Fan/s are a little noisy.

Runs Left4Dead 2 etc quite happily ;)
