I see there are a couple of locked off forums regarding this issue. Did anyone find a solution? I have two SP2 machines and the Apache hangs when verifying user name and password on both of them. Telecom have been next to useless, and frankly, the device is a waste of time if I can't get this to work. I could resort to PDAnet but that grates because this is a primary function the device was supposed to perform at the time of purchase and never has. The device has been installed with the ROM update. Any assistance would be appreciated.

Telecom New Zealand have been of no help at all, and this problem exists since the first Apache release. One of the Geekzone users posted something on his blog, you might give this a try: http://www.geekzone.co.nz/geekiegeek/2106

Don't you mean HTC the designer and manufacturer of the Apache has been no help at all.

Try a hard reset and run the wireless modem program on the Apache before you plug into your PC

Jama, although you and I know HTC has not been helpful at all, on the streets, at consumer levels the problem is that Telecom NZ is not providing the proper support for the device - like other mobile phones people won't go to Samsung to have problems fixed, but first to the store or the call centre.

As per your suggestion, there are many other cases around here (including myself) of people having problems with their Apache and hard resets, running the wmodem program in the appropriate order, etc was all tried, I'd think.

I've tried all three of the INF files posted via that blog. Am unable to get the HTC modem to work and the dialer has to be found elsewhere. Managed that though. The CDMA file in the Vista zip folder connected first time. Quite exciting. Unfortunately it has hung on serveral subsequent attempts.

The trial version of PDAnet works absolutely seamlessly and partners AS as wmodem should. It only lasts 7 days and I'm reluctant to purchase it as I need to need to use the device on various laptops and when you change device you have to obtain another license.

Are there any other 3rd party applications that we could use?

I have to agree with Freitasm that this is an issue for Telecom and not HTC (from a consumer point of view). I brought my phone from Telecom and it is Telecom branded so to me any issues I have should be sorted out by Telecom.

On another note, I just gave the PDANet application a try (on Vista) and this works very well. I think I may even change as the connection process is a lot easier, plug in and connect. No having to switch on Wmodem first.

Question: does the apache support activesync via bluetooth? (I know I could go looking and find out myself but sometimes its just easier to ask).

Hi

I posted about this last year and in the end the phone went back to Telecom and six weeks later I got it back. It was fixed but alas only temporarily - it now no longer works and I have given up on it. I now used Bluetooth and have found this very effective and faster!
I also found the order to doing things very important when it did work - you run the Wmodem software and click connect before you plug the USB cable into your PC then run the dialer software that came from the Install CD.
If you want to persist the Telecom Complex Support people did give me some settings to change:

Save settings and the phone resets. I tried this but the settings change back to the defaults after reset hence the modem doesn't work.

Hi There,
I have experienced the same issues when using USB Modem. I am not very WM5 savvy and have tried for support from both Telecom NZ and HTC with no success. The problem was still the same. Finally I had somebody at telecom tell me "This never worked and wasnt meant to???" What really annoyed me was it did work and now it wouldn't! So i tried other forums instead.
to cut a long story short

FIX:
I googled for Telecom Apache AKU 3.3 downloaded it and updated

NOW IT WORKS!
****** WARNING*****
you will void your warranty if you use this patch as it was not released by telecom themselves!

the patch update improved power saving features and a bunch of other stuff too.... what i did notice was on the phone dial window it doesnt have the handy contacts appearing at the top left corner as you type
