Have signed up to Telecom UFB and received the Pace v5542 modem ahead of time.  Performs really well on the existing ADSL (ping 18ms, DL 12-12.5 Mbps over wireless to opp end of house).  One downside, no parental controls available in configuration.  Was thinking of asking for the alternative, the Technicolor TG587n.  Anybody had a chance to compare these two, esp the wireless coverage ?

As a side issue - I gather you have pluged it in as an adsl modem/router on your existing copper line and didnt leave it to be pluged into the ONT?

Why I make this comment is because if you did it has self configured via this connection) as a modem/router and will have turned the WAN socket off and will not work connected to the ONT and will have to be reset back to 'clean' mode.

We have had a number of people do this with the Pace units before we get their UFB connection installed and they had to get them swapped out with telecom before they could use their new connection.

Thanks.  Yes, it connected to the existing copper ADSL.  If it came with a warning not to do this I missed it.  Are you saying a factory reset won't fix the problem come the UFB install day ?

Any comments on the relative merits of the two modem/routers ?

The Pace is the business grade device vs the Technicolor is the retail / consumer grade device.

Personally I would be pretty happy if I got a Pace.  But being a business router it doesn't surprise me it doesn't have parental controls and such like.

If parental control was important I would go for a TL-WR1043ND, Wireless Router, 300Mbps, 802.11b/g/n, Ethernet as they can be loaded with Gargoyle and I believe it supports VLAN 10 tagging on the WAN interface for PPPoE so you can terminate the internet directly on your router.

Gargoyle is pretty brilliant for monitoring your internet usage and the WR1043ND has a USB port so you can store the usage reports onto the local USB port.
