Finally - finally - we have a (theoretical) 100Mbps UFB connection here at home and it's all systems go. Telecom/Chorus has supplied its standard Huawei HG630 modem/router. But on disconnecting the old ADSL modem/router this morning (a Netgear Dual Band N600), I noticed that it too, is capable of a fibre connection with its alternative RJ45 Gigabit Ethernet WAN port. Now having told you all that, I'm out of my depth already. Anyone have any thoughts about the performance of an Huawei HG630 v a Netgear N600? Is the Netgear really capable of fibre? Is one likely to be better than the other? And if so, which? Thanks for the help.
If I remember rightly the Netgear N600 doesn't support VLAN tagging in the stock firmware, Telecom use VLAN ID 10 on on their PPPoE connection for fibre so you'd need to use the Huawei HG630.
You can always look at setting up the Netgear as an additional wifi access point only later if you find the Huawei doesn't have a good wifi.
I have a similar query. While I'm very happy with VDSL, if I decided to go down the fibre road one day, what's a good router? I have a Netcomm NF4V which is awesome and would prefer to stay with Netcomm.
Correct. You'll connect the WAN port of the NF4V to the ONT that will be installed. A bit of a reset and/or reconfiguration of the NF4V and you're away.
