My mailer is Eudora ver 7.1.0.9 sponsored and I have an xtra email account. I have used Eudora for about 18 years and am reluctant to have to change now.
I am not able to get my mailer to send emails after changing the SMTP setting from smtp.xtra.co.nz to send.xtra.co.nz - I get the error message "Error talking to SMTP server [421 Cannot connect to SMTP server 124.108.96.158(]" and the email is not sent. When I change back to smtp.xtra.co.nz, emails transmit normally.
Two weeks ago I rang the Xtra/Spark Help desk and spent 45 minutes on the phone, much of it talking to an operator in the Philippines. She sought, and gave her, remote access to my computer. She fiddled around with my mailer settings for about 20 minutes. It was clear from my following of what she was going that she had no idea of how to solve the problem. In the process, she made a number of changes to my settings including she checked the "Leave mail on server" box. She concluded by telling me to take my computer to a computer shop. When she gave my mailer back to me it would not send or receive so I had to restore my settings to the way I had them before she screwed them up.
As an aside, I have found when overseas, that when I log on to some ISPs to access my Xtra mail account, I have had to change the SMTP setting from "smtp" to "send".
How do I prepare my Eudora mailer for the switch over to having to have the setting "send.xtra.co.nz" from 30 September?
