Hello guys.. Yesterday I hit my 10 GB cap & I still haven't been reduced to dialup speed, which is really weird.. Anyway I'm 5 GB's over my cap limit, which is like half of my allowance.. I've downloaded 15 Gb's on a 10 GB plan & I was wondering if I might get into trouble? How do you guys think Telecom see this? Will they disconnect my internet? Will they slap me with an unexpected fine? or is this perfectly OK?.. I am on a monthly flatrate plan & don't have to pay for excess usage..

I tried asking them in an email if it's OK to go beyond my cap limit without worrying about having to pay for 'excess' usage, I didn't really get the answer I wanted but they said I will not have to pay for anything additional on this Adventure Plan but I will be reduced to dialup.

Well, my speeds are still high & today I checked my usage bar & discovered I was way way over the limit.. So am I still OK? Do I have anything to worry about? I just needed to find out & this looked like the best place to ask..

I don't think that would get you into trouble... Telecom has already throttled your connection, so your usage impact is reduced.

I'm not entirely sure.. So I can assume that I am safe, I think I kind of did overdo the usage thing, But please excuse my naivety, when you say throttled do you mean 'reduced to dialup speed'? .. I'm still downloading at typical broadband speeds and after looking at my usage bar I had gone over my 10 GB cap yesterday morning. Too bad for me it's not going to reset until the 14th! I hope you're right though, your answer does sounds positive & maybe I'm wrong about the throttled thing.. I sure hope it doesn't concern Telecom.. I feel reluctant now to watch streaming media at this point.. o.o

I was on adventure plan when I was with Xtra. I'd hit 14 Gigs and still going full speed. I think the limit is higher then 10 before they slow you down, just they advertise 10. Once you've passed their allowable limit they'll slow you down if on flat rate. Also it may only be once a day they do slow downs, e.g. 2 in mourning so may take them up to 24 hours before slow down happens.

Once you'll into new month of your plan (if slowed down) it speeds back up again. So if you're on flat rate plan nothing to worry about, it's their problem if they haven't slowed you down.

on a serious note though, you don't have to worry about a thing. if telecom doesn't cap you when they should of it just means it'll be delayed by one or 2 days. this happens often. also if you don't pay for excess usage on your plan then you are not in the wrong for continuing to download at your high speeds if you haven't been capped down to dialup yet. i would make the most of it if i was you

Glad to hear the responses guys.. I guess I don't have anything to worry about after all. My suspicion was only raised because I'd seen in another forum that some guys get their internet taken off for breaching their cap to excessive limits. So I do hope in my case that's not true. Although, thanks to both of your replies, they've calmed my nerves.. You kinda caught be off guard there dnb with your first sentence, By god I'd immediately thought you were some Telecom representative or something, I'm unsure about making the most of it though, If I can call Telecom & ask them if that would OK & get the 100% guarentee I'd go for it, But i fear what they might say, lol & I'm sort of new to the internet. Anyway, thanks again for the positive answers folks.

Long story short:

If you were on a plan that charged excess rates (200mb, 15gb, 30gb, 50gb) - then you'd pay for that data.
If you were on a plan that simply throttled once you got to the limit (all the other plans) - then no further charges, you'll just get throttled to 64kbps.

If it hasn't been throttled yet - you aren't going to be chased down. You'll just get throttled at a later time.

I wouldn't worry about it.

I go over my cap all the time on ihug bb3, they never seem to cap it at all for me, not sure why.
