Hi everyone

I have recently moved back to Spark VDSL2 after being with Vodafone. Vodafone provided me a HG659 with which I had a GuestNetwork set up, which was very useful for AirBnB guests.

Now, after moving back to Spark in the last couple of weeks, they kindly supplied me with a HG630, but it doesn't appear to have a Guest network function. Is there a way to set this up with the HG630, such that I can give my guests Internet access without giving them access to my home network?

Or, the alternative is that I could plug the Vodafone-supplied HG659 into the spark network. I have tried to do this and change username etc to the Spark settings, but I unable to get Internet access.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Why not just remove the HG630 completely and just use the HG659? It's the better router.

Thanks for the response.

I tried to do this earlier, but the HG659 couldn’t get internet access. Of course, I can’t remember if the settings that I found were the same as the page you sent. I will try with your settings tomorrow evening.

Post some screenshots of the HG659 settings and we can double check.

if the HG659b is vodafone supplied, you may need to change the settings to use PPPoE rather than DHCP.

There was a change in how Vodafone provision these devices by default which makes their default settings incompatible.

Both the HG659b and HG630b support guest networks.

There will be a flag within the modem you can toggle.

UPDATE:

Thanks for the links to settings and admin passwords. It turns out that I had used those settings yesterday and they didn't work. And today, they didn't work!

However, I found another webpage with the same settings but a different VDSL password - "spark1" instead of "password". And changing this enabled the Internet/VDSL connection. This is odd, since I didn't think that the username and password were necessary, but it is now working, so all good.

More than likely what actually was changed is a hidden value showing up on the modem, almost certainly from copy and pasting.

Flick me your line number/account number and i'll check over the logs and see what sort of bounce-back we were seeing.

No reason "password" would not be accepted, although it could be "gfdgfdggtrjyogjsg" for all we are concerned. Long as it doesn't have alt codes (typically from as above, copy and paste)
