Hi all

We received an email saying we needed to update our Skinny Huawei B315s-607. We use this as a backup in case the UFB goes down. We also occasionally travel with it.

Can anyone tell us what this update actually does/changes? We're specifically concerned about the possibility of a location lock being placed on it.

Thanks in advance.

It's just a standard software update, no big changes.

Without this update, there is a network feature being turned on that would cause no or limited connectivity, thus why the team is trying to get the updates all out there.

location lock is on the network side.

Your comments read to me like you may be moving around the modem alot, in which case i'd caution you in that it will get locked. You may have gotten lucky and flown under the radar thusfar.

Probably LTE M upgrade. Was a disaster on Vodafone with heaps of B315's going offline. Without the latest firmware, L700 will no longer work.

Yep, It's a pain, i feel for the skinny folk that are working through it.. End of the day though, they are doing their best to ensure service for customers before it goes no service rather than the rash panic :)

I'd have to double check. Is only a concern for skinny though.

I have not got an email from Skinny about the B315 & when I followed the procedure and clicked the update got the message no update available (or something like that!)   This modem was updated in July 2016 so is this the reason for no update this time?  I tried it twice with different browsers and each time it said no update.

What version do you currently have?

@skinnysquad would be able to confirm if that's the current one. 2016 doesn't sound right..

Hi

I can look into it for you.

Please PM me your IMEI, Broadband number (both found on stickers on the modem underside), and your contact details (email, phone).

Hi thanks for that.  I'm thinking that it may have had the upgrade done remotely by Skinny - but I will contact the support guys if it stops working.

Afraid we don't have the capability to remotely push out the update, which is why we're contacting all of our customers. There might be a discrepancy in our records though, showing your modem still on the old version even though it's already been updated. I definitely suggest you contact the support team this week, before it potentially stops working.

If you wait, worst case scenario would be that your modem would need to be replaced, as you will no longer be able to update it over the air because it will not longer be able to connect.

Just had another go at this.  I went into the menu and looked up the device information and software version number and it exactly matched the update software version.  So that is why I was always getting 'your software is up to date' message.  Anyway, I downloaded the local update .bin file & rightly or wrongly,  ran through the set-up procedure which went perfectly with the modem rebooting itself and then coming back on line.  Once back on line I checked the version and it has remained the same.  So, all very strange.  I do remember seeing a pop-up message about the modem about two weeks ago but I had definitely not done anything about it.  The modem seems to be working perfectly got a good speed test.  And have it turned off and now back on and all seems well.

That's good news.

If you haven't contacted the Skinny Care team yet, it would be great if you could still PM me your IMEI and your email so we could update the status of your modem. This way we'll make sure to exclude you from any further "modem update" messages.
