New POTS connections

Hi all. Spark and Vodafone have both told me that they will no longer do new POTS connections which is a problem as I wish to move some equipment that is still using POTS. Chorus has advised that new connections can be done and I should contact the service providers that will do so but won't tell me who they are.

Any suggestions welcome.

What kind of equipment? Even without POTS, doing it via VoIP will likely still work just as well.

The PSTN network is technically nothing to do with Chorus - Spark own the NEAX switches and wholesale access to them to RSP's.

There are 80+ RSP's in the market and the vast majority will have resale agreements.

Spark can still offer PSTN connections but are actively migrating copper voice customers to FWA or fibre, and likewise with other providers due to the shutdown of the copper PSTN network.

Whatever product you have that needs a PSTN connection will need to be moved away within the next 1-3 years anyway as the shutdown of the NEAX PSTN network starts.

We (2degrees) still offer POTs lines (VOIP/SIP lines are cheaper at 15$ a month).. Just call 0800 022 022 / Option 7.

And that's something important for people to remember - a PSTN line delivered over copper is not necessarily a traditional POTS line from the NEAX. Lots of providers now deliver voice over baseband ip which may introduce VoIP compatability issues for people just assuming they've got a regular analogue line.

Spark still connect standard POTS, I laid a lead-in for a client only 10 days ago so the client could have Spark VDSL & landline (client insisted on LL..:)).

Re: VF - I have heard from past clients who were VF customers at the time - CSR's insisted no new copper connections were possible.

In both cases this simply was not true, however it turned out that one of the "CSR"s was a telephone marketing agent who cold called the customer on behalf of VF...
