Hi all,

I hope someone can help me here.

I have now spent countless hours talking to help desk, surfing the net and keep going around in circles. So, please please please help if you can.

I have a palm treo 750v  (at lest that’s what it says under the battery, and also bought on that assumption).

I want to connect it to the xt network. Everything I have read about it along with telecom staff in the shops say it should work. But if a sim card from telecom is put in it, it can’t pick up the network. It looks and looks AND looks :-) but no joy.

At the start of my quest, telecom told me it most likely would have been locked by voda. But voda says "NO" it wont be locked if from NZ (and it is) however I cant be 100% sure of that as it was purchased via TradeMe from a gone bust VF store employee.

I have a prepaid sim that I can try different things that anyone suggests and post results if this helps someone work things out.

And if anyone knows where I can get a list of codes that I can plug into it to get into the inner works of this phone so it gives me phone info, bands that it will work on etc… all the stuff that you cant see just by looking via the software on it, would be great.
I ask this because a couple of web sites say it’s a treo 750 (not 750v) and that wont work on the xt network. And if indeed it is locked. The unlock guys that you can call tell me the same thing as vodafone, “it wont be locked if bought in NZ” but wont tell me how to confirm if it is or not for sure…

Please help before in need blood pressure medication… :-) or give me more directions to look in.

Paul

Doest that suggest it will work then? Like telecom staff think, it should...

How can I confirm it is in fact a 750v as apposed to a 750?

Check the network settings Make sure its not locked to GSM 2G only as this would cause issues

I do with the phone in front of me

Best idea use google and search locking the phone model to UMTS / 3G only

Turn on the phone. Click the green button. On the phone application tap options. Look for "Band Selection". It should be 2G/3G, in automatic mode or 850 MHz.

For the 750v it depend on the firmware. The original 750v with WM5 didn't support 850UMTS without a registry hack but the WM6 firmware supports it without any tweaks. I don't think that you can still get the upgrade from palm though.

I have to admit though that I have the WM6 firmware and still couldn't see the network when I tried someone's prepaid sim card although I eventually received a non-txt message from an unknown sender wanting to reconfigure the phone and asking for a pin. I got cold feet at that stage so I guess it was seeing something but not sure what it was up to.

On my vodafone card I see the XT 53005(?) network when browsing the networks manually.

You guys are fantastic!!!! Thanks so much! I knew it would be something simple and I just needed to find someone that knew what it was. So easy once it in front of you. Great stuff thank you.

This is what I did for anyone that is looking for the solution to the same problem.

Start > Settings > Phone > Services > Band Selection > (select network type) Auto > (Select your GSM/UMTS Band) GSM(1900+850)+UTMS(1900+850)

After you have done this you will most likely get a txt from an unknown sender (its telecom) and it?s a down load for the settings for the net. I canceled it, but you can see it in your inbox if you do the same.

Thanks guy's
Paul :-) one happy camper now!

That txt you got was the same txt I got and like you I got cold feet too. It changes the settings for the net and txt's etc.. I think... I guess its still not working as I haven't done anything with it yet but my phone is now on the network which is a massive start. I can sort the other settings out easy enough from here. Oh, I am running WM5 too, it may have had the hack you are talking about done already...

I'll keep you all posted on this thread if i run into any other tricky things that others might want to know about.

Cheers

Paul

Update... yes you need to accept the txt you get after first finding the xt network. The code is 1234. It will let you send and receive txt's, get on the net etc.

If the option is there to enable UMTS on both 850 and 2100 at the same time this would be a better choice, otherwise the above should work fine.
