Hiya, just would like the opinions from anyone who bought the R6. I know it's the cheapest phone there is, and relatively decent bang for your buck but anyways, here are my issues.

It's so easy to send blank messages. When I go to send a msg, after I select the person, it takes a second or so to get into the text input screen, so I inevitably press it again, sending another msg. Lucky I got an extra 100 texts.

The other thing is that it is real easy to connect to the internet. Has anyone else had the same prob?

Oh and twice I have lost the ability to send/receive msgs and calls. Like it was not in service but it was.

Thoughts?

your last point has occured to me but at the same time the Roaming R logo at the top of the home screen is showing. Also is it possible to remove the TWORLD botton and replace with something more useful. Pressing the up arrow also goes to tworld.

The phone is very similar to he "easytouch discovery" on Telstra Australia which has "bigpond" keys for both up arrow and the right softkey so that stuff seems to be inherited.

If you don't want the internet, you can add a new connection profile that is invalid and it won't connect. My Tworld button connects me to my own "portal" through an added "direct.telecom.co.nz apn though I hve thought about assigning it directly to "your telecom" as that is rather useful.

^ Ok so I set up a connection to point to http://yt.telecom.co.nz/mobile/view/account-info-view on proxy 210.55.11.73:80 on APNwap, and this will take me directly there if I go through the browser in the menu but it doesn't change the behaviour of the Tworld button at all. Or the up button, which apparently can't be changed ether. (I also managed to make an invalid connection that would block all including the tworld button, but the 'your telecom' feature looks quite useful, and probably the only telecom feature I'll ever use)

I can't find any information on this, could you maybe expand please?

I don't know why they couldn't add a 'set homepage' option. Heck, being able to change the menu from that ugly blue would be nice. So far not impressed with this phone, features it has plenty but all I want is to make it not ugly, txt without predictive, and call people. And whats with the convoluted multi-alarm? I want to press alarm, then put in the time for the alarm.

Oh, and worst feature so far? Don't know if anyone else has noticed that 'LCD being pushed in' ripple the screen gives about a cm above your finger when you press the up key with normal force. It's only slight, but it's there and it makes me wonder about the build quality on this thing.

I changed mine but you're right, I can't change the default homepage for those two softkeys even though the homepage is forced to "yt.telecom.co.nz"

menu, settings, go to [Handset] tab, connections, left softkey for [Add]

works great when heading into WAP directly and selecting "home" though.

I have just changed the apn to "TelecomData" and get a "/!\ failed to connect" message which may simply be preferable to it loading every time the page is loaded.

As soon as I took mine out of the box I knew it had been assembled by blind monkeys using parts salvaged from old skoda's from the eastern block.

Seriously it is a cheap phone but it was free and does most of what it is supposed to. Call quality is OK but I can often hear my own voice echoing at the other end, not sure if this is the phone or network.

As soon as the new iphone is released I am going to use my R6 for throwing at the neighbours cat who often comes over and eats all of our cats food.

I can hear myself echoing at the other end too. And the phone seems really slow to respond to my key presses, like once I push a button it is a good second before it kicks in. Does anyone else have this prob or is it just my phone. Considering taking it back for a checkup.

Mine does the same so I think it is just the crap processor inside.

Hey, has anyone managed to make their R6 work ok on VF network,
mine works fien on voice calls and txt, but am having a little issue getting the MMS settings right for texting.

The R6 is not as good as the Nokia 6288 only had to buy an R6 because the nokia wouldnt do all the xt frequencies and because vodafone coverage is still not obtained where XT can, for the cost of the phone the R6 has a reasonable bunch of features.

I agree Hybrid, do you find that the speed as to when you press a button, it takes ages to do what you want. I can count over a second sometimes. Infuriating!

I have had R6 for over 1 month now, the phone seems to be okay for the price you pay for it. Have had some problems though as follows: unable to connect to internet when in reception, unable to connect at full coverage, duplicate contacts at some stages, txt messages come through as a number rather than the name in my phone book, roams when im in nz, slow processing. As of today have contacted telecom to see if they can help

Have heard through someone who was talking to someone at telecom store that there is a software update for the zte R6 to fix the problem. Does anyone know where i can get it?

I bought mine to try out the XT network. Speech quality is great, better then my Nokia 6121 on Voda, but I'm not sure how much of that is down to the networks. I'm using it mainly for data now and it seems to work fine, although upload speed is Really Slow. And it charges through the USB cable, so it's far better for this than my Nokia which can only manage about an hour's battery life when used for data!

I guess Telecom wanted a cheap, entry level phone and that's really all it is. The display is c*** compared to my Nokia, but the keypad is fine. The firmware is an adventure sometimes and I've now managed to lose all of the Telecom service numbers from my contacts list.

And it works perfectly on Vodafone - our daughter used it for a week when her ancient Nokia finally died. So I'll probably keep it as a spare for both networks

I was a geek before the word was invented!
