Hey all,

Will be living in student hostel accomidation this year and need a decent speed internet connection, but sadly wired ones are out, so that leaves me with only wireless to go for.

Woosh i've heard from many people is terrible for speed and service, so they are out. Now down to vodafone and telecom. Looked at telecoms new Turbo T-Stick and apparently claims speeds of upto 21mbps.

I'm wanting to know what speeds and latency i can expect from a location in Central Welly (Willis St). Will it be anywhere near the speed of adsl at my house where i get dl speed of 5mbps? Also what happens with interleaving on wireless connections? Can you turn it off to lower the latency to a reasonable value?

Thanks in advance for help with my questions.

So what would an avarage latency be for wireless internet? Around 100ms ?

Ping times on a HSDPA device with HSUPA is around 80ms - 100ms to most NZ sites.

Also being abit of a casual gamer what kind of latency would i see ingame ? Currently to nz servers i get between 70-80. Would wireless be much higher than this? cheers

The data stick can take speeds up to 21, you wont see anywhere close to that though, probably around 7-10 on a good day, which is still fast enough to do anything you can think of.

I'm using one and im sitting right in the middle of town, my latency is 80ms, packet loss is 0 and speed is 8MB/s, I haven't used these for gaming before but it should work fine!

got one of these jobbies for the better half whilst she is in hospital.

After a bit of surfing on it myself can report that speeds seem to be fairly decent. I wouldnt necessarily use it in a gaming application but.....yeah for what it is the T stick seems decent.

The force is strong with this one!
