hi guys,

just got a question about this adsl2+ upgrade and the speed that i should be getting.

my cabinet got upgraded a while ago , but my speed hasnt changed at all.

this screen shot was taken before the cabinet was upgraded.

and this is the one taken now, after the upgrade.

On the Main Page, Change you DSL Modulation either to multi Mode or ADSL2.

GDMT will be limiting to ADSL1 Speeds

i have tried for ages to find a firmware , but i cant find it anywhere.
i have a dlink dsl 2470b if anyone has the latest firmware can you link me to it please.

Looks like you have a WAG200G, same as me, set your DSL Modulation to ADSL2+, multimode is okay but if you ever have to re-train it takes ages as it tries all the modulation options until it hit the best one.

Also make sure whatever ISP you are with has you on a FS/FS plan and that htey have made the change at the ports on the DSLAM (what you connect to in the cabinet).

Also you'll want to try interleaving turned off, this is usually an option with your ISP, interleaving off might cause your line to slightly more unstable but if you in a cabinet area, I'd recomend at least trying it. Interleaving on is more stable but adds some overhead to keep things that way.

You have two different screens from different modems showing the before and after..
You could try plugging in your original linksys modem and setting the DSL modulation to Multimode on the main setup screen and then it will autodetect the best connection for you.
If that makes a difference then perhaps the Dlink modem is faulty..

Hi, the Dlink 2470 whilst probably not the most prestigious brand is not a bad unit, I have dealt with a couple of these new series lately and they are well ahead of the older units, and I dont think we need to bag their performance in relation to the OP's issue just yet.

How recently was your line moved to a cabinet, if only a short few weeks ago then its quite possible that the migration is not fully complete so the speeds you have are not uncommon till full migration. If after 3-4weeks its still limited then get in contact with your ISP and get them to have the port checked that its on the right profile and have it reset.

In the past few months I have dealt first hand with connections where the speeds were well below ADSL1 many not even reaching 2-3Mb/s and the line was supposedly on the new cabinet. In each case after insisting that this was all wrong we finally got a chorus to trace the line through and low and behold in each case the line was still one of a lonely couple sitting still connected to the home exchange.

Based on the fact that you have supposed 5dB attenuation I dont think this is the case but I just point out that if you dont think you are getting what you should then dont just accept that every thing has been changed over, often details ranging from the physical line to minor port profile entries can be missed in the cut over. Shifting each cabinet of connections, of which in any one day nationwide there must be 4 or 5 cabinets to do would be a pretty large task, so some things may be lost or just take time.

As an aside and I have mentioned it before, even with 5dB attenuation do not expect to get must more than around 18Mb/s as a modem sync rate due to Telecoms 12dB noise target.

just an update, looking at the telecom adsl2+ avaliability tool i should have adsl2+.

im pretty much smack bang in the middle.

should i now ring telecom or should i wait a little bit longer?

Hi Ronak, I am also connected to the Claudelands exchange in Hamilton and my cabinet being CLE/BW. A lot of users connected to the claudelands exchange with cabinet upgrades are experiencing the same problem as you including me (now problem sorted). It took 3 weeks for me to get it done but here is what you need to do providing your modem is set to the right modulation (ADSL2+)

With me there were 2 problems.

1. My line profile was set to ADSL1 (7616kbps) and my modem showed ADSL1 even after the cabinet was upgraded. My ISP had to get in contact with Telecom Wholesale and get my line profile corrected to ADSL2+. They told me that a lot of users on my cabinet were still stuck on ADSL1 while others were migrated to ADSL2+ correctly. Ring your ISP and tell them that your line profile is stuck on ADSL1 and it needs to be moved to ADSL2+

Once my modem started syncing on ADSL2+ @18mbps, my actual throughput speeds were still limited to 7.4mbps max which was the second problem. So if your line after ADSL2+ migration still limits your throughput speeds to less than 8mbps then follow step 2 as well but first get your line profile corrected.

2. To get the speedcap @ 7.4mbps issue fixed, my ISP requested Telecom wholesale to turn my interleaving back ON which updated my profile at Telecom's end and fixed my speedcap issue. After few days I got my interleaving turned OFF and my speeds are noe 18mbps down -:)

also the Claudelands exchange gets congested @ 12:00PM and you will only see max speeds of your line after 11.00PM. Between 12:00PM and 11:00PM, your throughput speed will be between 5mbps ~ 9mbps.

Do whatever you want to do man.
