I bought a Samsung B3410 phone in Australia last week and put a Telecom simcard in it over there. It worked fine I was able to text and call people, but when I turned it on after getting back to NZ, it says "Emergency calls only". When I first turned it on here it popped up with something (I'm not sure what) and while getting it out of my bag knocked whatever it said and it said emergency calls only. I also have no reception now.

Help?

Is it because I had no credit prior to leaving Oz?
Or is it because of what I knocked?
Or has Telecom "blacklisted" my phone since it's not one of theirs?
How do I unlock it and get it to work?
Is it my SIM or my phone?
Do I need to just get a new SIM?

Thanks

That phone does not support WCDMA (the 3G technology that XT uses), and therefore will not work on XT.
You will be able to use this phone on Vodafones or 2 Degrees older GSM (2G) network.

According to GSMArena (http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_b3410-2993.php) that phone only supports GSM 850, 900, 1800 and 1900. Telecom uses UMTS 850 and 2100, which that phone doesn't support.

Unfortunately, the phone you bought is only usable on Vodafone.

When in AU and you put in the XT SIM you would of been roaming on a 2G network this has caught a few people out. As advised above XT is 3G WCDMA only

emergency calls only is cause the handset can see other networks like Vodafone NZ and 2Degrees

Thanks guys, I spent a long time before purchasing it trying to work out if it would work on Telecom's network, guess I should have just asked what network Telecoms was.

Thanks anyway... guess I'm off to buy a Vodafone SIM.
