for the past two days I have been receiving a

"The modem (or other connecting device) is already in use or is not configured properly."

error message. The strange thing is, however, I am able to send text messages (and assume receive them also).

This is only a problem in Window 7 (64 bit) as it connects just fine as a modem in Vista 32.

I have uninstalled the manager 3 times already... using the same USB port when it is reinstalled.

I don't know if it is related but the WAN miniport all appear to be in error when looking in the Device Manager. (there are 6 WAN miniport related entries and they all fail.)

Would appriciate any help.

Windows fixed the WAN miniport itself with the "Fix it" utility. It found all the drivers and reinstalled them all... however the XT T-stick still doesn't want to go online (See above).Frown

I assume you're using a ZTE TStick (MF626/MF636), try going onto the www.zte.co.nz site and downloading the connection manager from there.

The version that is built into the tstick I don't think has full Windows 7 64Bit support.

Thanks BarTender but I have already tried that. The problem is a very recent one, only from two days ago since the last big Windows 7 update. ... so I suspect there was something in that that has upset things.

I have been using the MF626 for about a month and have found it so useful when not in the office or in the range of a hotspot (not that there are many locations.)

I am hoping that someone else is also experianceing the same problem... before I just give up and reinstall Windows.. again.

I have had a few customers with this problem in the past. Usually the fix is just very carefully uninstalling and reinstalling. My procedure is:

1. Unplug device
2. Uninstall 'Telecom Connection Manager" via Add/Remove programs
3. Restart! (seems to be very important)
4. Install the Connection Manager from the latest download on ZTE.co.nz
5. Restart!
6. Plug her in!

Lastly, if it's prepaid, check it has balance. If it's postpaid, check you've paid you bill! :p

I've had this issue on win7 64bit and also vista 32bit - all I do is close the connection manager, remove the t-stick, insert the t-stick and run the connection manager again and it connects - obviously you would have tried something to this effect?

Thanks for that but unfortunitly I think Windows is so messed up now with all my attempts to fix this problem that to reinstall is all I can do.ERROR

I continue to get this error.

I have tried using another USB port but it will only get this far on the port it was inicially installed on.

What helps to confirm that it my instaltion of Windows is that it works fine in Vista (32 bit).

Are there any services I need are set right?

Just an update... I am about to reinstall Windows 7. This problem was common a few years back with earlier versions of Windows.

In the end it seems that is isn't a ZTE problem. I have just given my daughter a cell phone that is also manufactured by ZTE. On loading up it's software and trying to connect to the internet through that produced the same error message.

However that lead me to think that the Samsung software (for my phone) may have messed things up as I have tried to uninstall it and it doesn't complete the process.

In the past reverting to a restore point has fixed this kind of problem but not this time.

Better search out Windows solutions.

For anyone who is interested. Reinstalling Windows fixed all the problems I experienced.  Huh, I was due for a clean up anyway. It does seem however that the drivers only like to be installed at one USB port. If the stick in plugged into a different one it will want to install again but will still not function except for the original location. So if you do need to try out another port (location) for the sake of testing reception then be sure to fully nu-install it first.

Thank you everyone for all your help and suggestions.
