Looking for some opinions on the HTC Touch Pro 2 on XT. I've read most of the reviews online, and all say it's a great handset. I understand it ships with WinMo 6.1, but you can upgrade to 6.5 from the HTC website. Anyone tried this and was it an improvement?

I am currently running a Blackberry Curve 8310 on Voda. My primary use is outlook calendar / contact and task sync and push e-mail (assuming push e-mail works on a schedule (my last WinMo phone was an apache)).

Can anyone give me some idea of what the Touch 2 Pro is like for this? Also, what is the best value data plan on XT at the moment? I don't use a hell of a lot as it is, but having a device with 3G will change things.

Any other thoughts on this device would be appreciated.

I havent used that device all that much, but i can offer some clarity on data plans.

Dependant on whether your emails would have many attachments, you might get away with $6 - 50mb, else $12 - 120mb.

If you are on prepaid, then $29.95 - 500mb is the best value as you pay 10c/mb up to 300mb.

Also, keep in mind if you have WiFi at home / work, then a lot of your usage can be through that, reducing your 3G bill.

The Telecom TP2 already has an updated WM6.5 ROM available from the Telecom website. A few users here have reported downloading and flashing with good results afterwards. Definitely an improvement in performance.

As per joff nz, the $29.95 mobile data add on is probably suitable. This is also the plan I'm on. I'm out and about and have my phone constantly downloading emails and often do surf the web as well. 500Mb is probably plenty for you?

I'm very happy with my TP2. I actually purchased the Telstra TP2 as it was cheaper than the Telecom one which was back in October 2009. I flashed a generic TP2 ROM to lose the software Telstra branding and bloatware. I then flashed a customized ROM. There's lots of good Android devices out there now but I'm still happy with the TP2. Plus I cant afford another phone right now anyway!

Yup 500 would probably be pretty high, so will stick with 120 for now. Tell me, how is the battery life with your usage above?

I get around 2 days of battery out of my TP2.. Thats sending/receiving mail, txtng, the odd call, a bit of facebooking on the go.. All depends, my workmate gets less, he seems to be charging his almost daily but he uses his for gps navigation as well (we have four TP2's in the office)

I had one of these phones for about 6 weeks as a loaner (Telecom branded one). Already had been upgraded to 6.5 when I got it. I had 2 email accounts synced up to it, on push for the work account. Depending on the amount of web browsing I did I got 1-2 days from it. Never went flat in 1 day for me, even with quite a few calls some days but if you used it a LOT/worked in a poor coverage area then I could see it going flat in less than 1 day. Personally, I don't like Blackberry phones as I am sure joff_nz will attest to (but thats another thread!). Given the fact I have never had a Blackberry for more than a week (and that was 4 years ago or so!), I can't comment fairly on which is better to sync up to your exchange account

Since the apache days things have obviously changed heaps, the main difference with 6.5 over 6.1 that I noticed (having played around on one with 6.1 briefly) is that it appears much more touch friendly, in that I found I did not require the stylus as much to do various things. Otherwise it adds things like the Marketplace and MyPhone.

One note to emphasis about the above about data packs: If you start on, say, the 120MB pack then you can change to another pack once every 30 days: So if it is too much/little you can go up/down.

I've been a BB user for a couple of years, started with the 8700G. However, I've found the OS to be dated and updates a bit buggy. For example, the latest OS from Feb this year has been fine for about 6 months, but now it's freezing the BB at least once a week, requiring a battery pull to fix it (not very good when you use your cellphone as an alarm clock....). There's other issues too with the Desktop Manager; I had to wait about 6 months for Outlook 2010 support as RIM didn't include it in their desktop manager 5.0.1. Now, I've upgraded to DM 6 but having issues around corrupt contacts & two way sync. The only 'help' i can find is "delete all your contacts from outlook and start again". Which I did, but the problem came back again a week later, but now it's a Calendar entry (apparently). I've given up trying to fix it this time.
