After being away from Telecom for six months during which time I used Kiwilink for VOiP and 'net for one reason or another (cannot think of a really good one right about now) I went back.
It seems my phone number which was also my VOiP number has been ported back to Telecom - I think this is part of the problem I am about to unfold but of course, I could be wrong.
When I received the router I went straight into setting it up, I have done this before so not a big deal or so I thought. I got to the part where I just have to go to telecom.co.nz/broadband or whatever it is and put my details in and apparently those details were incorrect. Hmmm, so I called Telecom and spoke to a robot in the Philippines who assured me that they understood I had a problem with my broadband.
Two hours later ...
For some reason I could access the 'net using the ethernet cable but the wireless would only work if I didn't use WAP - every password I tried (using the Configure page) came up as invalid. So, I figured I could live with WEP - no big deal.
Now, the green lights that are all meant to be green never did work like that for me. The wireless light was always orange and still is. I have now gone through three modems each with the same issue.
It just seems to 'drop off' up to a dozen times a day. I had my geek friend here today who suggested my phone might be doing this.
Funnily enough - it didn't drop off the entire time he was here but as soon as he left - kapow! And then my mum called telling me she had been trying to get through to me for ages but the phone was engaged - it wasn't.
I am wondering if it is possible (trying to find a logical reason) that because my phone number is being ported from Kiwilink back to Telecom - if that is somehow responsible for the drop off's?
I have a wonderful MacBook Pro with Leopard if that makes any difference.
Also, have changed the channel from 6 to 9 and now 4 ... hasn't made the slightest bit of difference.
It really is driving me crazy.
Thanks
