Hi, I am not sure if this is a wide issue. From last week, I have been unable to send any mms to Vodafone network.

I am using an iPhone 4 on XT with iOS4.2. I can receive MMS from Vodafone mobile, but when I try to send one, my iPhone 4 shows it's been sent and it never arrives. I can send and receive between 2 iPhones on the same XT network.

I went to the Telecom shop, the staff said it's an issue with Vodafone.

Just wondering if anyone is have the same issue?

Hi hamurana

I work for Vodafone NZ and use an iphone 4 can you please try and send me a PXT (MMS) [phone removed]

If I don't get it I can check logs on the Vodafone side (Monday) and see if the MMS got to the Vodafone MMSC

A person working in a shop can't tell where the issue is standing behind a counter selling phones

(please send me a SMS after you have sent the MMS so I know you have sent one)

hey guys

Thanks for your reply, after some careful thought, trail and error, i managed to resolved the issue.

So the original issue was, I have an iphone 4 with iOS 4.2.1 running on XT. I want to send MMS to friends on Vodafone network. I have been able to do this for long time, but since about 2 weeks ago, I started to experiencing issues and my friends were unable to receive any of my mms. I only realised this problem when my friend failed to respond many mms that I sent.

I tried following ways to isolate the issue:

1. I tried to send and receive mms from another phone on XT, it works fine.
2. I tried to send and receive mms from another iphone 4 on XT, it works fine.
3. I tried to send and receive mms from another phone on Vodafone, I can only receive.
4. I tried to send and receive mms from another iphone 4 on Vodafone, I can only receive.
5. Re-enter the settings several times, reset the iphone 4 and re-enter the settings, still the same issue.

So it seems there is nothing wrong with the phone, it's something to do with the integration between XT and Vodafone.

What was really funny, during my test, there is one particular image that I am able to send to Vodafone phone, whereas for any other image, if i send them from my iphone 4, the mobile on Vodafone's network never receives it. All of the images were taken by my iphone.

That suggests there must be something different with that photo. After some thoughts, I figured it must be the image size, as that photo contains large areas of same coloured content, this means it will be easier to compress and reduce its size down.

On iphone 4, when configuring the mms, there is a setting for MMS Max Message Size, this setting controls the biggest size of the mms that gets sent to the network. For XT, it's 614400, for Vodafone it's 307200. Vodafone is half of what XT uses.

So I gave it a try, by changing the the value from 614400 to 307200. I then took another photo and sent it to a Vodafone number, it worked.

This really explains the issue i have been experiencing.
1. I can send and receive mms between XT phones, because all XT phones use the same max mms size.
2. I can receive mms from Vodafone mobile, because it is smaller than what XT can accept.
3. My friends on Vodafone can't receive my mms, because mms came out from XT is larger than what Vodafone network can accept, it just drops the mms.

My wife's iphone 4 was also having the same issue, I fixed it in the same way. I am not sure if it's any isolated issue, but if you are having similar problem, you could give this approach a try.

PS: This is for guys at Vodafone, I am not sure why this happened, perhaps you guys have changed something on the network? Also the fact that XT users can send and receive large mms (twice as big) than what Vodafone users can, is just makes wonder why.

Vodafone NZ supports up to image size 300k some handsets only support 100k

I am not sure if Telecom NZ has transcoders on the MMSC but international standard for MMS is max 300k

Have you asked Telecom if they have made any changes as they are your service provider?

Telecom Should look into the issue and check logs on their MMSC and if they think its an issue on the Vodafone NZ side they will pass a ticket to Vodafone.

Make sure you provide Telecom with example times and dates

Can you send a photo to Vodafone from the online gallery at mmsgallery.telecom.co.nz that is a sure fire way to discount if your phone is at fault, or if it's something whacky with your number to vodafone.

Is it a 027 or 021 on Telecom as if it's a ported number that can be a factor.

You could log a call with 123 or PM me with your number and I could see what I can do.
