I have the Thomson TG585 v8 wireless modem/router from Telecom and I use a MacBook running Leopard. After starting or waking up the macBook after shut down or sleep, the router won't connect automatically to the computer.

The only solution I can find is to get the Mac up and running, power the router off then on again, then restart the Mac when the router is back on.

Interestingly this issue isn't consistent. The mac will connect sometimes on starting up or waking up.

I've raised the issue with Telecom who've taken me through various steps including replacing the router.

When we were in the UK we had a Netgear router/modem and it worked like a dream.

1. Has anyone else come across this issue?

2. Is there a solution other than buying a new router or Airport base?

Get Telecom to send something out rather than a Thompson router... If you search these forums you will see a long list of complaints for those rubbish routers.

Commonly they have overheating issues and the wifi just dies...

Get a different router (NetGear/ DLink) and you should be fine.

Using a Belkin N1 Vision router and Macbook I had similar issues when I was running 10.6.2, but the issue stopped after Apple released the 10.6.3 update. Prior to that update I normally only needed to turn the airport off/on to get the connect back up.

My niece is using 10.5 without any problems on a Thomson, but that is a v7 and yours is more likely to be a v8.

I take it that Telecom got you to try different wireless channels as part of the troubleshooting as well?

Telecom wont be able to give you anything other than a Thomson.
If you want something else you'll need to buy it.

The best I can suggest is have a normal ADSL modem but plug a 'Airport Extreme' - the Airport costs a little bit more but in my experience they're the most reliable across the board.

Thanks guys. I think I'll put up with it for now as I also have a Windows 7 netbook running off the Thompson modem too. I'll save some money and get an airport sometime in the next few months. Thanks for all your help.

I'm also having problems with my Thompson modem and a Macbook Pro. I know the WPA key is correct, but OSX says it's wrong. If I keep trying long enough it usually accepts it eventually.

This is the first time I've had any problems connecting to wi-fi with this machine. Very strange.

I suggest getting another router I am running Windows 7 Ultimate Edition and I have a near new Toshiba laptop and im still having problems. I'm going to get a Belkin Wireless router this Thompson router from Telecom is very poor.

Interesting, I've dealt with two customers now with the latest model Thompson router from Telecom that can't get their Macbook to work reliably on wireless with it. Sounds to me like there's a firmware bug Telecom/Thompson need to work out.

It's a Good idea but at the end of the day customers don't want to go though all that they just want technology that works.

@bender: that's what I've been thinking but convincing Telecom of that is another thing! I'll give it a go and leet you know the result.

@farcus: my router is supposed to have the latest version and Telecom haven't suggested it either. In any case why should I as a customer have to do it? That's telecom's responsibility.
