According to Telecom's web site, my address is now near a roadside cabinet that has been upgraded to ADSL2+ technology.

I actually saw the man from Chorus at the cabinet 2 weeks ago, and he told me the fibre optic cable to the cabinet went live the day before.

Can anyone tell me what sort of delay there usually is between the cabinet being upgraded, and the ADSL2+ service actually being available?

Is there anything I need to do to enable it? I have received conflicting advice from the nice people at Telecom, some of who have told me I have to disconnect my existing ADSL1 connection and wait for a new ADSL2+ connection, and others who have said it will happen automatically, but they can't say when.

Hi, I guess you have checked your address on the telecomwholesale site and confirmed that your address is infact n a particular cabinet, and it also notes if its been completed or not.

Other than that the process is automatic, however you need to ensure your modem is ADSL2+ capable and you house wiring is up to it, there is a doubling in spectrum using going to 2+, if you house wiring is not good, then it may never achieve ADSL2+

What are your line stats from you modem, this will reveal some of the info you need.

Cyril

Edit, oh and welcome to Geekzone.

The telecom wholesale site is a bit confusing.

On the one hand under Services available at this address, it states that ADSL2+ is available for my address, and VDSL will be available in Sept 2011.

My nearest cabinet is identified as an ADSL2+ cabinet.

Under exchange details, it states that the ADSL2 upgrade will happen in December 2011.

Does that mean that ADSL2 won't become available until they upgrade the exchange in December, by which time I will be able to go straight to VDSL2?

Current download / upload results are 6.59/0.54 - same as before the cabinet was upgraded.

Your address will either fall within the coverage overlay for the exchange or cabinet, it won't be both. You'll have service from whatever one covers your house.

You will only be able to get VDSL2 if your attenuation levels are within 10dBm, this is typically within 500m of a cabinet or exchange.

If it says your on a cabinet, and the cabinet has been upgraded, then the exchange has nothing to do with it.

It can be a few weeks from the fibre optic cable going live, to when the man comes and does the auctual jumpering and rewiring of all the lines in the area- takes him about 2 days of sitting on a bucket in some weird awkward annoying positions to get it all done.
