I have a question...

Why do people have signatures with their System Specs or even their Speedtest.net results in them?

I give you exhibit A: http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?ForumId=65&TopicId=28687 - The signature on one of those posts is about 5 times lager than the post itself. (W00t indeed)

Is it just me getting old and grumpy? Or do others agree this is the computer equivilent to "Boy Racer" neon lights?

Reading a Geekzone thread now is an eye-battering array of stars, mods/subscirbers/signatures and in there somewhere, some content!

(Is "Boy Racer" un-PC?)

I'm very sorry about all the multiple postings of this!

Every time I submitted I got this message:

"500 - Internal server error.
There is a problem with the resource you are looking for, and it cannot be displayed."

So I reload a few times.

Fixed your half a doz or so duplicate posts problem.

RE: signatures, we moderate where needed ie huge images but if the post is only a line or 2 then the avatar etc leaves plenty of spare room for gloating or otherwise advertising ones geek prowess :-)

I don't think they are that bad on the whole, it's a display of user personality.
My Google shared documents is my sig, show my last two tagged items.

Seriously, some people are extroverts and like for others to see that they've got so that they can connect to them - some people call this "showing off" though. And, yes, there is an element of competition to is as well. Others are introverts and keep quiet about it.

I thought it would be obvious - having your system specs in your signature makes it a hell of a lot easier to help diagnose and troubleshoot problems when people post them, saves the back and forth of asking them what hardware/software they use. Speedtest stuff is a bit redundant though.

Used to have an okay sized sig on other forums, but now im too lazy to make one. Would probably put specs in there as others do.

Some sigs are uncessessarily huge, i don't like the speedtest one since it takes up a lot of space.

Also i could use an avatar but the one i use on other forums clashes with the colour scheme (too dark)
