Hi All,

I'm considering changing my modem/router setup as I cannot use Apples airplay functionality from my iPad/iPhone to an Apple TV on my home network administered by the broadband complete (HG556a) modem.

I'm on the red network and am looking at the TP-Link TD-8840 modem, which I would run in Bridge mode and then have an Airport Extreme Base Station connect using PPPOE and administer the network/DHCP/Firewall etc.

Will this configuration work? Another modem I'm considering is the Draytek vigor 120 - any thoughts?

Thanks,

David

Hi, yes that will work, but be sure to use the TD-8840 not the TD-8840T as it does not support half bridge (which is what you are trying). Also if you use the TD-8840 the half bridge mode requires the upstream router (Airport Extreame in your case) uses DHCP to make the WAN connection not PPPoE.

The Vigor is also a good option with its rather natty PPPoAPPPoE, in this case yes the AirPort Extreame needs to setup a PPPoE WAN session.
