Dear GZers,

Does paradise support *any* form of secure SMTP at all? STARTTLS, SSL/TLS, anything?

My parents are travelling & regularly finding that they can't send email. I suspect this is due to blocking of port25 traffic from some european network's broadband networks.

Suggestions like using webmail or gmail can be kept for a future post :-)

thanks
Dave

You can only send if connected through them as your ISP. I would ditch it.

They have never offered anything like this, and probably never will now.

The TelstraClear SMTP server does. There is virtually nobody left just using Paradise mail accounts, my understanding is most gut culled last year and a redirect put in place to a Clear account.

I still have a @paradise.net.nz email which i use as my main & only address. I have had issues with TC about their paradise.net.nz web based email system which i think is out of date. Won't display emails properly. Ascii characters like that etc. TC say it's ok & doesn't need to be updated. It's a shame trying to access paradise.net emails on another computer & not display right let alone your contacts are not on there unless on your own computer.
Perhaps I should go for a gmail or clearnet account? But the hassle which has put me off. I mean it's like changing to another bank.

I like using Mozilla Thunderbird for my emails though at home. What web based email systems would work on thunderbird if setup right?
Maybe bite the bullet & make the change huh?

Sorry a bit off topic.

My recommendation, move to Gmail, and configure your paradise account as a POP account within Gmail so that it automatically pulls mail from there.

Then tell people to use your new address.

You will continue to get mail from your paradise.net address as well, so you won't miss out on anything.

If you have mail stored on your PC you want access to, just connect it to your Gmail account via IMAP and upload it (You need to enable IMAP on your gmail account).

Hi all. Paradise customers can use the Clear webmail platform:https://sso.clear.net.nz/clearnet-webmail/login
Just type 'p/' before your username (without the quote marks). For example, p/myname
