Can somebody please explain why Vodafone are shipping their pre-orders on the launch date (28th) rather than shipping to arrive on the launch date like the rest of the world.
This means that you won't get the phone until the 1st at the earliest due to the weekend - 3 days after the launch.

Cheers
Russell

Keep your eye on the media.. there might be some in the country already, but possibly bugger all. And once they are gone (pre orders are sold out at Tcom already) expect a few months wait

5million in the US and now the wait is on till Oct.

While sales were solid, the company said on Monday it had run out of its initial supply and many pre-orders were scheduled to go out in October.

Because they are not allowed to be sold / released until the launch date quite simple really! 27th is not the launch date and couriers would deliver many of the handsets on the 27th

In the USA they are shipped by the operators and held by the courier company for delivery on launch date. That's what the OP is asking - why in NZ they are shipped on launch date instead of being shipped a day before so buyers receive the handsets on launch?

Firstly thanks for your response.

In this case when placing the order we had to enter an address where somebody would be available to sign so consequently I had to enter my work address so weekend delivery was not an option. Also when ordering Weekend delivery was not provided as an option.

Same day delivery would only happen where the delivery address is near the distribution depot - in this case I suspect it would be Auckland, so the rest of the country would have to wait until Monday at the earliest.

In order to stop the same day delivery Vodafone could have arranged for the pick ups to happen at say  4:00 pm on Thursday. In that way deliveries could happen across most of the country on Friday.

So it could be same day delivery (guessing) If you get it Friday or Monday what is the difference?

The difference is for the rest of the world those with preorders get there's on Launch whereas in NZ we have to wait till 3 days after launch.

Wow... Hold there John... This is an iPhone launch, people get a bit unhappy if things don't actually get delivered for days while everyone else can walk to a store and go out talking (or touching)...

I heard the couriers drivers are using Apple Maps - you could be in for a looong wait.

When I preordered my Galaxy S III from Vodafone it was dispatched late morning on launch day and I received it just after lunch on the same day. They seem to send them via express courier which I think is 1-3 hours.

I thought this was awesome service considering I missed the first batch of preorders!!

Be patient your precious little iPhone 4.2 sorry 5 might get to you on Friday :)

I'm not a complete idiot, I still have some parts missing.
