Hi,

I'm moving houses in a few weeks and the new house we're moving to is connected up via fibre lines. I'm currently with Telecom (which I do like and prefer), but they told me they cannot access those fibre lines, so I would need to choose WorldxChange.

BTW, I'm moving to the Addison area in Takanini, Auckland.

To be honest, I've never heard of WorldxChange before and wanted to ask a few questions on them.

I rang them up today and did set up a new connection, so everything can go smooth from the day we move in (which is around the 21st Oct). They told me fibre connection would take up to 20 business working days! I never knew it would take this long! So, we might not even get connection once we move in...

I was wondering how many days it took you guys to until they got back to you to finish your connection and to get a technician out to setup the connection?

Also, how is their service like? Is their connection always good? Any problems with them?

Any feedback and comments will be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

I havent dealt with WXC on a fibre connection but on an ADSL standard connection they were excellent. Had a few issues setting up but they were more my lack of knowledge and impatience then fault of theirs. I was very pleased with their customer service, was often able to speak to the same person which is always a bonus. Billing was always well done and accurate, a sure step up from Telecom's. Connection was much faster and more reliable then the Telecom and Telstra connections i had uses in the same area. However i wasn't living in the ares you intend to move to. But anyway hope I've helped :)

good luck

If its a new subdivision it will be a requirement that it is cabled up and ready to go already no doubt.

So it will be a matter of them terminating you and enabling it which shouldn't take too long.

But if you have signed up with anything using your xtra email account, you best be changing it pronto. As it will be closed as soon as your account does.

The area you are moving into if a BOF area (Broadband over Fibre). These were fibre only greenfields developments where no copper was deployed, and WxC were the only provider who chose to offer a internet + VoIP product in those areas. Telecom still don't provide a residential VoIP product and won't have one until they launch their UFB rollout.

No other telco's other than WxC took up the offer to provide services in these BOF areas, and these areas are now subject to a change freeze until they ultimately become part of the UFB network.

I have been a customer of WorldxChange for over a year now. Digital phone is good usually, I had problems just few times when nobody could call me and it was fixed without my involvement. Phone call quality is good. Internet plans is oriented for low usage customers, if you are going to watch online TV or download big files, you will pay much more than you paid before. I feel discrimanted against when I see a lot of advertising about new plans from different providers, because I can't change provider. I have complained to the ministry of economic development and to Chorus. Both of them promised to replace BOF by UFB before the end of this year.

You are probably moved in and connected by now but I thought I would share my experiences as an Addison development resident. I moved into the new side (McGinty St) in Mar 2010 and had no delay getting connected (ordered it about 2 weeks in advance). Moved again this year to another house in same street and had no delays.

The service from Xnet is quite good, I like the feeling that they are not a huge company and I often talk to the same people when I call them. The speed is good (30Mbps down /8Mbps up) and I rarely have outages.

I hate the fact that Xnet have a monopoly in my subdivision though as the pricing is very high! My usage has skyrocketed now that I have such good speeds and it hurts paying $1/GB on top of my connection fee ($101.20/mth)!

Welcome to the neighbourhood!

I called them the other day, I need minimum 50/100gb at our new place we are building in Christchurch. They gave me a non committal answer on new plans coming along and couldn't tell me when the BoF is scheduled for UFB upgrade. I later discovered this is information only shared between chorus and the provider, in this case Xnet. I did see someone setting up wireless over the two subdivisions so ill investigate that I think. 15GB even my kids laughed at :)

I know, it will be NOT easy to get any information about this upgrade. Top secret. Or most likely it doesn't exist. If you will get something, please share this information with us.
