We've been having problems with international speeds and are currently in communication via email with a Telstra Technician, but now we're having local issues with speed and its definitely being throttled.

Hello... Our robot found some keywords in your post, so here is an automated reply with some important things to

note regarding broadband speeds.

If you are posting regarding DSL speeds please check that

- you have reset your modem and router

- your PC (or other PCs in your LAN) is not downloading large files when you are testing

- you are not being throttled by your ISP due to going over the monthly cap

- your tests are always done on an ethernet connection to the router - do not use wireless for testing

- you read this topic and follow the instructions

there.

Make sure you provide information for other users to help you. If you have not already done it, please EDIT your

post and add this now:

- Your ISP and plan

- Type of connection (ADSL, ADSL2, VDSL)

- Your modem DSL stats (do not worry about posting Speedtest, we need sync rate, attenuation and noise margin)

- Your general location (or street)

- If you are rural or urban

- If you know your connection is to an exchange, cabinet or conklin

- If your connection is to a ULL or wholesale service

- If you have done an isolation test as per the link above

Most of the problems with speed are likely to be related to internal wiring issued.

href="/forums.asp?forumid=49&topicid=96226">Read this discussion
to find out more about this. Your ISP is not

intentionally slowing you down today (unless you are on a managed plan). Also if this is the school holidays it's

likely you will notice slower than usual speed due to more users online.

A master splitter is required for VDSL2 and in most cases will improve speeds on DSL connections. Regular

disconnections can be a monitored alarm or a set top box trying to connect. If there's an alarm connected to your

line even if you don't have an alarm contract it may sill try to connect so it's worth checking.

I recommend you read these two blog posts:

- Is your premises phone wiring impacting your broadband performance?

(very technical)

- Are you receiving a substandard ULL ADSL2+ connection from your ISP?

Gigabit network / Hardware / Cabling throughout the house, we've been able to get 100Mb downstream to local tests since we've had the service.

Hmm, I'd put money on that not being the case.

As noted above, you'll need to provide further information if you expect any help.

I take it you are on a cable connection?

If you're getting 15 Mbps to the TelstraClear service then your connection might configured on the wrong plan.

What's the speed you get from the TelstraClear speedtest site?

Other Flatmate Geek Here.

We've been in contact with customer service with regard to international traffic speeds, and we've been asked to email them trace-routes of specific servers we're having problems with.

This strikes me as odd personally, because the I see these lacks of speed for practically *every* server on the Internet, not just specific ones. Internationally, every single speed test we try has trouble breaking the 10M barrier.

You'll see here, that this server for instance, sees no telstra clear customers even breaking 5M to any of its test servers: http://testmy.net/hoststats/telstraclear_ltd

Historically we got 80M - 100M on a regular basis to the Snap Speed test server, and Telstra Clears Own Speed Test server, but not today.

Amusing how you say that - on our home Warpspeed plan doing a speedtest from our router (which is connected straight to the modem) shows our speeds as being crap:

But if I download a torrent, this slightly improves:

Ok, thats odd, the "switch" between Silverwolfs machine and the primary router was for some reason introducing a speed limitation.

I just ran the speed test on the box attached directly to the modem ( our "router" is a multi-ghz headless machine, but I can still remotely run a web browser on it ) , and Got a good 98M/s to the telstra speed test mirror.

Restarted the switch .... and the speeds to the TCL test server are respectable again.

No change however to international traffic.

international traffic will never be like national traffic for speed unless you want to open your wallet and pay much bigger $$$ and get a SLA in place

I'd love to see a sub forum for all us Warp-speed users.

Its nice that TCL have a 100M plan, but I've yet to meet anyone on that plan who are actually getting what they're paying for. Its great to have 100M for local connections, ie: to Snaps test server .... but having it drop to 10% for ALL international traffic just makes that extra payment a joke.

Whats the point in selling a connection that high then, and asking for a higher payment for that speed if that speed is not deliverable?

My expectation is that when you sell a 100M connection, that you will see that speed occasionally, even if its only at off-peak times.

You don't expect to pay for a 100M Connection and then have DSL users with a max of 20M downstream have better speeds than you internationally, even in peak times
