Hey I recently got telstra cable, and I have a Linksys Wireless Router (WRT54G). My laptop has a wireless PCMCIA card. I plug the Motorola cable modem into the router via ethernet and try to access the internet from the laptop but it doesnt seem to work. When I had slingshot broadband this was all I needed to do and It would work. Is there something else im spose to be doing with cable?
Any kind of help would be good, preferably a step by step guide!!

Thanks in advance

Sam

You need to setup the Basic Setup page on the WRT.

You can reach this at, I think, http://192.168.1.1 or maybe it's 192.168.0.1

There you need to enter your static ipaddress, the gateway, and dns.

And then it should work for you.

Best best is to first get it working with an ethernet cable before worrying about wireless.

Go to 192.168.1.1 - you should be prompted for a username and password.  I think the default username is admin with no password.

Set up your Static IP Adreess and other details in the Basic Setup area.

Once that is working - i.e. you can connect to the Net via the ethernet cable.  Go to The wireless setup and enter the wireless details - don't forget to then enter security details (like the wireless password) in the wiresless secuity area.
