I can understand you locking these boxes from the average guy off the street.
I'm an ICT engineer and not having some control over this box is annoying !!

Could you please unlock. Wink

Hi Graeme,

This has already been explained in numerous threads, we actually don't differentiate between any users ICT engineers or house wives, we will not unlock the account details and SIP info for the VFX account, the parts of the device are locked down so as all services work correctly with VFX, you may be an engineer but you will have no knowledge on what impact any changes on the SIP account will have with the services being delivered.

If we control the account settings then we become responsible for the SIP messaging across the network so for example if you had a hang call for 3 hours to a mobile then we would be responsible, if you have control of the settings and say play with some of the timers what happens with that 3 hour call that may have held up beause the timers mismatched we would have to pay the upstream provider but would be happy to pay us ?, will you accept responsibility for that call because you adjusted the timers in the box and the call did not release correctly ?

We have done this to protect the customers and ourselves from having these types of issues and to make the whole VFX experience as easy to use as possible, for people that wish to play with settings  there are other providers that do this we will not I’m afraid.
Hope this clarifies our postion  RegardsPhillip MooreOperations ManagerWorldxChange Communications

OK, from your point of view, I guess that's fair enough.

I was only wanting to turn up the out going volume...  Playing around with "timers" won't change that.

Some respondents on the other end of the line had been complaining that they were having difficulty in hearing me (or my wife); you sound like your a million miles away etc.  So I guess to have that adjusted, but not so much that it is distorted would be nice.

It doesn't help when depending on which helpdesk person you get, the degree of help offered differs significantly...
This level of abstraction from the hardware concerned can be frustrating, maybe VFX isn't me...

Thanks for the prompt reply and honesty, that's much appreciated.

Generally we have found the volume pretty good for most phones, but if you have a phone which has a lower level, we can work with you to try and improve that,

As for the level of support, thats always pretty hard the support team on the help lines are generally excellent on first line issues but there are always varying skill levels between support staff no matter what industry you are in, they will always try and help where they can and escalate where they can't, thats alway one of the reasons we support geekzone so people like yourself have an avenue to express concerns and be answered at a more direct technicial level, we will not be able to satisfy everybody, but we do try Cool

VFX has been designed to be as simple as possible for as many people as possible, whilst we are aware there are a number of people out there that do like to have some control / input over IP services VOIP included (and we do know there will be a frustration factor for these people) they are not generally the mainstream and we are trying to bring the power of VOIP services to the masses as a viable alternative and the easist way of doing this is to control the CPE I'm afraid, the home mechanics so to speak form a great community but tend to want to "pimp their rides" and we would find commercially this would lend to far more support issues than would be accepatable to a growing product,  there are alternatives out there for this (not many) but some for people that want to complety control their devices.
