HI
I am just transfer to Xnet and start using today. everything seem to be fine as long as i surf the net,email...but not downloding.
I am using the linksys gateway WAG54G adsl.
When i started downloading a file (say 200MB) using flashget, the download speed was about 600-700KBs/S ( i saw it in the bottom of the flashget). The connection only stayed for 30 seconds then droped. Then I have to turn off the modem and turn on. The connection was on again. I kept to download the file and about 30 seconds..It was off again.

You guy know the problem?
here is my setting for the gateway.

Hello dragon,

Your settings there are correct, what would be of concern is if this situation happens with any download. What i do suggest is trying a download without using the flashget program as the freezing of the router is a major concern and possibly could be an issue with the way flashget is operating.

Thanks for your Reply.
I tried other download managers and the problem was still the same. But I found that as long as I limit the downstream to 350 KB/s by using a function in flashget so the connection did not drop. ( i did try at 400KB/s but it dropped).

any help?

Welcome to the world of consumer dsl equipment.

A wag54g did the same thing for a mate when torrenting, their "support" was only able to email thru another version of the same firmware that he had, and after that just issued an RMA for it, second one did the same thing. A netgear was the only one that would last a week without needing a reboot and had working upnp support on it.

I bet the cisco engineers resent seeing the logo on the front of the linksys gear.

Hello dragon,

Thats some interesting info, i use a wag54 myself at home so i'll install flashget and run some tests and different configurations to see how i get on. If i can get it to present the same faults as you are having i can then look into it further from here as well.

Probably never got decent speeds with the old isp which make it crash.

I had it at my place and it was rock solid on the adsl (wireless was another matter) - but I only get 2ish megs line speed - same hardware at my mates place would lock up as soon as a download or a torrent got over about 400k.

Completely unacceptable from a piece of hardware to die at half the line speed it should obtain. Im wondering how many people out there have problems since the unleashing which is actually their routers being junk like this..

With my old ISP, my adsl router can reach 500-600K too. But anyway I will borrow my friend router+adsl to test.
