hey there, this question must have been asked before, but i'm having real trouble, on finding out which wireless modem/router to use with cable telstra, i have rung telstra to find out, but you wait forever, and ever, did get threw one time and all they said was go to our website and find out

, went into noel lemmins and there full of crap, i just want a wireless modem/router, that works with testra cable, so i can move my laptop around home, and stop the traffic coming into my room, any help or advice would be appreciated,

Noel Leeming sell Belkin 802.11g routers for $99.99. I got one a few weeks ago for somebody and they seem to be a very nice unit. The price is also very good.

If you're after something that's slightly better I'd recommend getting a Linksys WRT54GL which will cost a bit more but can have flashed with open source firmware such as Sveasoft or DD-WRT to give added features and functionarility. The newer WRT54G models aren't that good and can't have non Linksys firmware flashed onto them like the 54GL.

I use Belkin and have used for the last eight or so years. The only time I tried other brand (dlink) I had to return two faulty units.

awesome for the info guys, much appreciated, i checked out noel lemmins and they didn't have any of those models in store, what they did have though, was the model belkin adsl2 + wireless modem with built in 54g wireless router, another model is the d-link external usb 56k voice and data modem, are any of theses compitable with telstra cable, if so which one would you guys recommend?

The model you want is this one here. I would avoid clear of anything with the D-link brand due to past bad experiences and anything with a built in ADSL modem may not work with TCL cable or if it does will potentially require fiddling to configure.

Just to clarify things for you...

From what I'm aware of, you can't use anything other than the cable modem provided by TC. BUT, you can get a wireless router that you plug into the TC cable modem (not replacing it). And yeah, I would probably be best to avoid anything with a built in ADSL modem as they probably all have a phonejack port instead of WAN port and will be expecting to connect to the net directly.

You probably can import a cable modem with wifi from overseas, but you'd need to probably have it's MAC address specified on the TC network, and they'd probably not want to do that.

I've been using a Linksys WRTP54G and using it's built in VOIP with WorldXChange's VFX service for my phoneline.
