I know that traffic downloaded / uploaded from xnet servers is not counted towards your bandwidth, but is traffic from one xnet customer to another also counted as local (not charged)?

Traffic from one Xnet customer to another is counted as National traffic (charged on the existing plans).

Would it be a possibility for traffic from other xnet users to be at a discounted rate? Like only counts for 1/10th of what national costs?

My reasoning behind this (and it may be flawed I don't know too much) is that international traffic is expensive, and encouraging users to use traffic entirely within the xnet loop may reduce costs.

So the advantage for xnet is reduced cost, and the advantage for users is that we would get faster speeds and wouldnt count as much towards the bandwidth?

I don't know if it costs xnet more for national traffic than traffic between xnet users, but if it does then surely they would want to encourage xnet to xnet traffic?

That is a good idea in theory.

But what exactly are you going to be getting off your neighbours? Unless you are actually sharing files (which might be illegal depending on what you share), hosting gamign servers or are one of the few people who host their own web/mail servers. Then there will not be a big market for it.

Also ADSL currently do not have very good upload speeds to support this.

Xnet user to Xnet user is national traffic because it leaves our network and goes through Telecom and back in the network to get to the other person. Even if users are on the same terminating circuit at Xnet their traffic doesn't stay local to the network. That's how the DSL network works.

There goes my theory.

Would still be nicer to see national traffic at a reduced rate to international.

Just reminds me of the days of unlimited 256k internet for national traffic! That was such a good time...
