If someone with a blocked caller id phones me when I have anonymous call restricion on, they get the message: "The party you have tried to reach does not accept unidentified calls, please try your call again later"

I want to keep this excellent service ... which in itself would be worth the change from the other lot .... but is it possible to provide a bit more help to genuine callers that have their number blocked?  They (two or three of them) seem to only hear "please try your call again later" and miss the "unidentified calls" bit.  And when they do hear that, they don't know what to do.

Is it possible to change the message to something like
"The party you have tried to reach does not accept unidentified calls, please remove your number withhold to make the call, see your phone book for instructions" .... I suppose telling them to dial 0197 before the number is too much ? (and unfortunately not consistent anyway)

Thanks...

and thanks for the phone service ... it's working just fine - with no Telecom cable in sight.... all over a rurallink radio network

hmmm let me think about this, we can probably change the wording slightly, but I will have a think on this promise Laughing

also if you can send me the details of the callers that you think are hearing half the message I will take a look and see if I see a problem as this should not happen, just tested here from a few lines and all good with the full message heard

Hi Phil,  thanks for your help ... once again.

And sorry about the confusion ... I should have been clearer - I'm sure the callers are sent the full message ... it's just that when their brain decodes the message (psycologically or whatever the technical term is) all they  "hear" is the last part.  So they don't comprehend that I have anonymous callers blocked, and they keep trying me later ... as they believe that's what they were told to do.

The funny thing is that the first 2 times I blocked my caller id and called my vfx number to test it I didn't notice the word  "unidentified" either ... once I had heard it and was expecting it, it was perfectly clear ...

thanks

I guess an alternative to straight call rejection would be an option to send anonymous calls to voicemail instead.

yes ... that would be good ... I was looking for that option in the setup when I first got vfx.
... plus time based call rejection/re-direction  would be even better - call centres seem to target me around 6-7pm
Perhaps when we get access to some more of the advanced options ...

I would like to add my 2c worth here as well:

Recently I have started using this function because some Survey Company or people looking for donations have got hold of our  VFX number.  I noticed that they always show PRIVATE instead of the Caller ID appearing on our phone, so this seemed like an ideal way to fix them...

karearea: So they don't comprehend that I have anonymous callers blocked, and they keep trying me later ... as they believe that's what they were told to do.

I think the mention of "Please try again later" is superfluous and leads to confusion because their call is still going to be blocked later as well.

As Wayne has said, it's the last few words of the message that sticks in people's minds, and this is the source of the problem.  It would be better if that last part of the message was deleted.

Does it give the message immediately, or is there 2 or 3 rings before you get the message?  If immediate, then people that dial from a cordless handset might still be looking at the handset and not yet raised it to their heads.  A simple solution would be to simply change the message to include 3 ring sounds at the start (i.e. no need to change the system, simply add virtual rings to the message itself).

yes you will...as I just posted there will be some more advanced features coming, we have them now but they are not part of our product launch yet, they are being used by a few people myself included and possibly one or two selected VFX users and working very well, won't give too much detail yet but some pretty cool features

actually what I may do is ask one of the trail users that is using some of the advanced feature sets to post his thoughts and comments since he has been using it for several weeks Wink....

so if you feel inclined Grant perhaps you could post a review of the feature set your using

Any VFX connection already has it!

The new feature is the ability to turn this on or off depending on Time of Day, In Office/Out of Office etc.

Does that answer your question?
